Finally-a colt

Postby foothillsequine » Sun Mar 22, 2009 9:20 pm

Well, after 363 days, my maiden mare by More Than Ready foaled a gorgeous chestnut colt. He is by a Mr. Prospector son. It was not an easy delivery for her due to a malpresentation, but thus far, all is well. Keep your fingers crossed for continued health please. I will post pics as he has some very funky white on him that the colored folks will be interested in. His tail looks like a skunk!

Thanks everyone! This little guy is just a doll, and what a personality. Mom is doing well so far, and swelling is beginning to subside. She tried to present him rectally  and we all know that doesn't work too well. However, she is a trooper and there is no damage anywhere--thank goodness. I will try to post pics today, but it may be tomorrow.

He was posterior? Yikes! Or did you mean his feet were poking into her rectum? Either way, glad the vet or whoever was able to correct the malpresentation. Hope they continue to thrive :)

No, he presented one foot up through her rectum, and one foot was down, and tucked under with his head. It required a wee bit of manipulation, but thanks to many years of medical training (and foaling), we knew what to do. The vet did not make it until after as we live a ways out. Today, all is well, both mom and babe continue to do well. Let's hope it continues that way.

One down and one to go....(another maiden--yuck!)
