Pedigree Query

Well this started on a different thread, but it was not the topic at hand so I will give it it's own thread.
Supposedly Pirate's Widow is due May 6th. Looks pudgy but not really big n preggo. No boobs what-so-ever. Udder of a 90 YO woman. It was suggested that perhaps she slipped it and is just overfed. Same thought was occuring to me/vet comes anyway the 19th so he is going to palp her if nuttin' happens by then. Just in case I put her in the small paddock w/ Cassie and her 2 week old foal (2 mares are buddies). At feeding time I looked under her belly...........still hoping to see something looking like an udder. Nope. But there was a little thing on one teat. I was trying to see if it was a tiny wax blob or just a piece of debris. I flicked it off and hand was a little wet. Hmm. I pulled down on one udder. Good heavens it IS a stream of milk. Thin/watery to be sure......but a squirt none the less. Tried other udder. Same thing. Well SHE seems to think someone is comin! Still never had a completely boobless wonder before by her due date. Last year was the first foal I had from her here. She foaled the night she bagged up, but OTOH she had placentitis and this was at day 320 and had a red bag foal. I don't really consider that normal foaling circumstances to go by.

Hopefully the "Boobless Wonder" will present you with unrefutable evidence that she has been pregnant--soon.

Bummer. I have a fat mare with watery milk though no udder........and she is indeed open. Musta slipped it somewhere along the way. At least the good news is the outside mare he was her to check also IS in foal so she is good ta go!

Amazing how they can fool us and the vets sometimes! They can slip early and show no signs at all. And others never really look pregnant. Last year the farm managers and vet repeatedly checked Spanish Guitar to make sure she was still pregnant when she was due to deliver. A bouncing baby boy proved it!

And the durn mare LOOKS pregnant. No one can believe she is not. The lack of udder was my concern. Unless the vet is capable of missing an 11 mo pregnancy on palpation I guess I just have a fat mare! My Paint mare OTOH is one the past 2 years I kept having checked as she did not look the least preggo and the past 2 years delivered small fillies/she has a huge barrel.....just hid it well between the 2.
