Broken Vow mare at Finger Lakes Adoption

Crystal..I dont see what the big deal with adopting from FLTAP is...at the end of one year, you have the papers, the horse is completely yours, you can sell, breed, retrain whatever you want to do with her...except the unthinkable of course! I think their program is terrific..it gives you a year to decide if you really want the horse, if it fits in with your goals and if you can afford to feed/care/vet it.
I'm with Crystal on this one.. there are plenty of mares out there that are available and can be bred before you've fed them for an entire year. With the dramatic hay/grain price increases this year, the prudent breeder might need to tighten up on the kind of deals done. Adopting this Broken Vow mare now, at the end of JUNE, means skipping the entire 2009 breeding season and not covering her until 2010.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
Also, part of the adoption agreement stipulates that the mare can never be sold at auction. While I can see what they're trying to protect her from, that mare has enough pedigree to be a viable KY broodmare--which routinely change hands at auction. It's the way the TB business is done.
So in her case, the things you'd have to agree to to get her make her unattractive to the people who would probably offer her the best homes.

I do agree they do wonderful things, but on a different thread they were talking about the money it was costing to keep a horse in clinic care. I have already said I would show up cash in hand (more then asking) if I could get her with papers and not on their contract. Maybe it could help the other horse's expenses. I like this mare, and would love to breed her next season. But I just don't see sitting on a broodmare until (like madelyn said 2010).

Broken Vow filly
Well Romantic Journey has a new home and will be going to LA ..
.I have "adopted" from FLTAP late last year...They are wonderful people to work with and the first mare that I got from them is in foal for 2009 on one cover to a nice KYstallion...
I find each rescue has their own rules concerning breeding , but FLTAP does allow these mares to be used as TB broodmares to raise racing babies..They do have the stipulation that these mares will not be sold at auction, but their babies can..
Thanks Cree for posting this thread about her...Be sure and check the FLTAP site often because they do have some nice mares coming thru looking for homes.....g
