Yes she is sound for disciplines other than racing mightyhijames. She could run some more but it is one of the owner's requirements of sale (that she not be raced), there is nothing wrong with the horse herself.

Jessi, they're really making you work for this one.
She looks like a lovely mare from a very nice family. Amazing that everyone's trying so hard to find something wrong with her.
Short story: a few years ago I was at the Keeneland yearling sale and a filly walked into the ring from one of the best families in the stud book. I had seen her back at the barns (she was on my "not-in-a-million-years wish list") but never expected to be able to afford her. In fact, I was only sitting inside because I had just bid on something else. To my shock, her price stalled way below where I had expected--so I put up a hand and bought her.
I had at least a dozen people come up to me over the course of the next day and ask what was the matter with her--several had seen her in the ring and been afraid to bid since the price was so low (compared to what her other relatives had sold for.) There was nothing wrong with her beyond the fact that her conformation wasn't good enough for anyone to want to spend high six figures on her, and the people who would have been willing to pay less hadn't thought they'd be able to afford her and so had stayed away.
Sometimes a good horse is just in the right place at the wrong time. And sometimes people who are paying attention have the opportunity to get lucky.

I'm with you, I'm dying to know also!

She ran at 5000 claiming.
None of her female side has produced anything. But they are all half something.
I can see now why she is worth 2500.
Her dam had some hard luck early on, but is still being bred and producing babies (at least there's a 2009 that was reported). Two of the half-sibs are currently running, and all of the dam's runners (all of the surviving foals) are winners. I'd say that there's promise in this pedigree.
The second dam catalogs fabulously, with the great mare Topicount a MSW and producer contributing to a third of the catalog page. In addition, this beautiful female family is one that has brought us Relaunch, Rubiano, Tapit, Glitterman, and host of others. The opportunities of line breeding this stallion making line is mind boggling. Don't like the tail line of the dam? Then shoot for linebreeding off of Smart Strike's female line.
$2500 is a more than fair asking price, in my opinion. She's genetically carrying a lot more possibility, as are her half sisters. Isn't the fun part of the game being able to find the value in a mare like this and making it work for you?
I wish I had the ability to snatch her up myself.
Yes, she is indeed well worth her asking price and then some. She has a really nice half by Indian Charlie that has been doing very well and her family has several nicely bred youngsters coming up to the races including a couple Grand Slams.
Karenkarenn I already posted in this thread that she ran for $5k claiming, and if you read my first post you will see that her female family has indeed already produced several very nice runners including a Graded SW, a $375k yearling & a $600k earner who was a Gr 2 winner, Gr 1 placed among others. I will repost them below for your convenience.
Smart Gossip is out of first dam Suzy, a BROAD BRUSH mare who is a half sister to TOPICOUNT ($600k earner, multiple stakes and Grade 2 Winner, multiple Grade 1 placed), GSW 2 yo JAHID ($200k yearling), and staked placed Gone West Super Special ($360k yearling).
Second dam Hot Topic (1979 mare by THE MINSTREL - English HOY of 1977) is a half sis to stakes winner ELNAWAAGI, by Roberto & stakes placed Ambuscade by Roberto, a $375k yearling.
Third dam GURKHAS BAND (11x stakes winner, 22 lifetime wins from 45 starts), is a half sis to CUT THE TALK, multiple stakes winner of 25 lifetime races, SW GOLDEN GOSSIP, & SP winner Saucy Singer.
I should have priced her much higher and gone from there - my bad. BUT, the owner is most desirous of a quick sale - he is NOT in the breeding business, hence the price.
;);)
Have a good day folks!
