SPCA

Postby Mikki79 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 7:25 am

I've been working in the back ground on helping the SPCA and I actually just heard from them yesterday. Obviously this matter is a horrible situation and they are doing their best to keep up with the multiple of questions that they have been receiving. As this is a huge case and the biggest that they have ever come across, they are handling the situation as best they can. Right now they are taking all questions thru an email [email protected] specifically set up for this case. I talked to Sue yesterday who is monitoring that box and they are currently taking a list of names of people who had horses at Gerry's and also a list of names for people who are interested in fostering and/or adopting a horse. Here is the latest email that I received:

hi mikki and deb,
at this time the horses are in foster care. they are being treated medically and nutritionally. the legalities are being sorted out by the authorities and owners are being notified as soon as possible. once all these issues are resolved the placement officials at the shelter will be responsible for finding future homes for the remaining horses.
we are developing a list of interested people and collecting some information from each of them. this information will be used when trying to match each animal with the most suitable new home.
anyone interested in long term fostering or adopting, needs to send me their phone number on this site so that i might contact them personally for more information.
at this time we have the greatest need for hay, nutritional supplements, grain, and monetary contributions for veterinary bills. please be in touch with me if you can help us in any of these ways.
thank you for your concern. sue

That is great. Thank you Mikki for forwarding that email. :)
Hopefully the rest of the horses in the care of the SPCA will recover and find great homes.

Just to bolster what Mikki79 said about using the [email protected] email address for questions, I had the occasion to use it last Saturday afternoon when I had a question on another matter. I put "low priority" in the re line, and had an answer within an hour.

Give it a try.

Dunsinyne was euthanized the day of the rescue over a month ago. He was down and unable to rise. He deserved a lot better life than he had.

i wrote an inquiry to this email address as well. i had corresponded w/gerry about one of her mares she was selling so i sent the picture i had to the spca along with a description, name, and year of birth. sue has been very responsive; i spoke w/her last week about adopting that mare and she gathered some information. according to the news articles, gerry has to relinquish ownership of her horses (i assume she wasn't trying to sell someone else's horse) so hopefully, i can get the mare and bring her home. but at least they are all in a safe place right now.

This is a follow-up to a post I made over on BridledObsession's thread in the General Discussion forum.

Anyone who either owned or was involved with any of the horses who died or were seized might want to think about writing a pre-sentencing letter to the judge. Remember, sentencing is scheduled for November 12, 2008, so there's time.

And El Camino, my heart goes out to you. May yours heal soon.

I don't know what to say. I have scene the best of times in this business and what happened to this horse is certainly the worst of times. I try not to feel guilty but it's just ironic that Gerry "rescued" this horse from the killers and that I helped get him to her. If only she had called I would have helped.

i've been in touch w/a former of dunsinyne and he's very upset, to say the least. he's in the process of trying to track down any of his offspring that may have been part of the seizure. if anyone has information, i would be happy to pass it along.

El camino, in order to ask for help, a person must first acknowledge that there is a problem. Sadly, judging by her recent post on another forum, Gerry isn't there yet.

I'm sure the above sentiments are echoed strongly and widely. "IF ONLY"
There are so many people in the same boat. Had they known help was needed.... so many horses, so much suffering.
But it's said best by Pawtucket - "needed help" needed to have been acknowledged first. help can't be offered (nor accepted) if one won't ACKNOWLEDGE that here IS a problem.
What board was that on Pawtucket?
