Mares for sale- $600 and up - with papers!
Moderators: Roguelet, WaveMaster, Jessi P, madelyn
If anyone has Secretariat offspring could they please PM me. I would like to get a listing of them all and I have contacted secretariat.com about possibly listing a "whos' who" listing of where they are now. Just their names and maybe the state, and then if the owners grant permission, a way to contact them. Thanks --- Leslie

There is a list of them on the web already. I ran across it while googling. Try googling a known son or daughter plus secretariat and it should come up. It wasn't at the top of the list either. I wish I could remember the site, sorry!
It would be nice to make a list from that one of the ones remaining alive so maybe we could track down any more that need retirement homes.

My friends and I bought Kristin Ann. She will also board at Stephanie's for awhile until she can come home. Turns out she needed us way more than Tendress did, she's pretty boney!
Saw a Secretariat mare for sale at one of the big Ocala farms but she is $12,500 so don't th ink she's in any danger (of ME buying her!)

I remember your mare's full brother. I was working at FT Saratoga when he sold as a yearling back in the mid seventies. He was a grand looking horse, gray though, and he sold for quite a bit if I remember well. I think he was from Secretariat's first crop. Hope you have a lot of good times with your new addition.
Why did I know that was Grey Legion?! He was a beauty! It says he went to CO to sire sport horses. I'm guessing he's dead? I haven't heard anything of him in years.

I'm thinking the stallions (or A stallion) was allowed out with the mares. Not sure how they are kept, think the stallions are kept up and the mares allowed to roam right up to them so maybe someone escaped. But it really sounds like a pasture situation. I think the last couple years he probably didn't bother to register a few of them. Too bad. I think they COULD be registered but not sure they'd be worth the trouble and money for their future racing prospects.

It costs upward of $2,000 to register one older TB.
From the JC website:
Foal Registration Fees All Fees Payable in U.S. Dollars
If all Requirements1 are met within one calendar year from foaling date $200.00
If all Requirements1 are met by December 31 of yearling year $525.00
If all Requirements1 are met by December 31 of two-year-old year $775.00
If all Requirements1 are met after December 31 of two-year-old year $2,000.00
Notes:
Requirements include:
fully completed and signed Application for Foal Registration
check or money order for the appropriate fee
four (4) color photographs clearly indicating all identification marks (a close-up photograph of the face may be necessary with no white markings horses)
Service Certificate signed by the stallion owner/lessee
Genetic type of the sire and dam on file with The Jockey Club
The stallion owner would have reported the "covers" in the year bred and have got back stud certificates. The situation you are describing, well the owner has got grade foals.

That's what I meant. For their racing prospects it just wouldn't be worth it. But they don't need papers to show or event or trail ride and no worries about training injuries. I don't know what was going through the owner's mind, I just don't. Which is a big reason they could all use an upgrade in living arrangements!

registration
Thought you guys might like a bit more info on some of these horses!!!!!!
Yes, registering some of those yearlings will be outrageous.
There are 3 of them that should not be too bad, the tough punch foal, JoJo the Joker foal and there is one more (I can't remember)... They should only be around $600 or so, as that is normally what he has to pay, as he always waits until they are yearlings (he needs to be shot).
Anyway--- we have filed a lot of cover reports and foal reports for most of the mares, but I am not sure which are not listed.. If you can give more info on that it would be helpful.
As far as breeding in December... HA! The man is insane! Yes, the stud (our chef) runs with the mares/foals/yearlings. (he is a great stud, temperment wise). BUT the stupid owner just puts mares in when they are in heat regardless... Jo Jo Jokester was bred in January I beleive the first few times, but he left her out with the stud, so of course (firtle myrtle) she got bred on foal heat in Dec. He does not pull them out of the field when they foal. SO, the stallion is a saint!! He does not disturb the foals/yearlings... I wish that the owner would sell that stud, as he would be a dream for someone to own. That is the only stallion he will not sell (sentimental reasons, and because he feels bad about the stallions tough life--- his trainer cought this horse on fire one time while "juicing him up- electrically" without the owners concent.) Anyway, that is why that stud did not make more money than he did (he was a terrific race horse, from what the owner says).. He has burns (no hair) all accross his back, but yet he is still one of the prettiest studs!
Anyway--
The tough punch colt is exceptional!! Great looking horse, with a sleek race type body. Long legs! Could be anything, really a looker!
JoJo the Joker and her foal are gorgeous!!! No joke, (no pun intended
) they both are stunning. They have very typey heads, and perfect hunter type confo. The colt could be a racer, dont know anything about the dam aside from her looks and her papers. I have one great pic of these two (it is also on her pedigree page).. Not the best confo wise, but from their gorgeous point of view.
Tough Punch--- WOW, if the man would let me buy her, I would in a heart beat!! Talk about STRIDE! Exceptional mover, wonderful type, substance (for a us bred tb) and I do not like grays (but I do like this lady).. She currently looks like crap, though I have seen her lots when she looked great.. Her current foal on her side has 4 socks, and is as of this moment a bay, though her other colt is still a bay as well (definite heterozygous gray. yippee!
Blazing Jewel is looking super!!! She has gained LOTS of weight since winter (because she lived here for a few months) and is rolly polly fat. She does not have a tatoo, so I am not sure of her training status (I can find out if interest comes up).. She has produced some gorgeous colts (both the older and the younger colts are very nice looking).. Unfortunetly that one gray colt was stunted, but is now in a "stall" so he is shooting up.. The young colt is already graying out a lot, and has a cute face!! This mare would make a great show horse if someone wanted to put time/training into her!! She is a NICE mare!
Aye Got a Secret is a BIG mare... 16.2 or 3 and has bone, not super wide but has LOTS of bone. Supposedly she broke her ankle (track), and is doing a lot better now on it then a couple years ago. She gets along perfectly fine, she will just not hold up to a riding career.. She is fine as a broodie. Very nice mare.
Touched By love mare is definitely this pedigree--- http://www.pedigreequery.com/touched+by+love She is not old, and is a nice mare. I can't tell specifics on her, as I dont remember them at this moment... I just remember telling the owner that she was a nice mare.
Proud Seneorita daughter... STUNNING!! Would make an EXCEPTIONAL show horse for a childrens hunter as she will be around 16 hands... Not huge, but she was stunted some so she will most likely grow... Sabino, with gorgeous flaxen mane and tail.. She is priced high because the 80 year old owner says he doesnt have to sell her as he wants her as his future riding horse (Please he hasnt ridden in lots of years, crazy man!)... She could be trained and resold for a minimum of 6K with 6 mo training on her. She is super fancy! The mare-- Proud Seneorita produces some fantastic show quality foals.. She has a 4 yo in Lancaster PA doing eventing!! Fantastic.. He was at least 16.2 at the beg of this year (3 stockings I beleive).
Salvisa, very pretty solid bay mare.. Good condition, looks as if she could have a few more foals if she was kept in decent condition (which she hasnt been in until the last 6 months when he turned her out on actual grass, but now it is all going away)...
I will cover all the mares with -- "havn't had a live foal, or hasnt gotten in foal"... He does not do any prenatal care--- no shots, no cleaning of the mare... No mucking when they are inside.. No placenta care, or umbilical care. NO RHINO shots nothing.... His horses actually stay in pretty good shape, BUT he does not use a vet!!!!!!! So, he does not do any ultrasounds, nor does he do any cleaning before breeding.. So Golden Returns is probably pretty nasty.. etc etc. Therefore! He is setting himself up for no foals (which is actually a gift) because as he did this year.. If the foals are born and mares have no milk, HE WILL NOT PAY 2K TO KEEP THE FOALS ALIVE... He shoots them up with pennacillin and hopes for the best..
This is really hard on us, because we are always the emergency care! And he looses foals!
Another thing he does is not feed them until the last trimester (bc the mares are skinny) and then he gives them a 5g bucket of grain all at one time 1x a day!! The mares do gain a LOT of weight, but the foals grow so much that last trimester they normally have to strengthen or relax their tendons from all the growth.... None of the foals at all have any leg problems, it is only normally during the first week of life that there is ever an issue.... But lets just say, it is not so great!
I just want everyone to know, that with some of these mares that have not had foals, it may not be their fault!!!!! A good repro vet with an ultrasound and who knows how to give a mare oxytocin to flush her if need be, they may be fertile Myrtles too!!
If the horse is listed as not sound and you want to make a reasonable offer that is fine.. I will either take a chance and go to him, or I will tell you it wont happen... HE will NOT give horses away! At all, dont think about it!! He would rather send his best friend to NM for slaughter than do that.
There are a LOT of of stunning horses under these bones, and cockleburs. LOTS of great movers, and superb conformation... They just need to be taken care of.
IF I CAN SELL ALL OF THESE HORSES LISTED..... He will only have 8-10 horses left.. They would be taken very good care of if that were the case.. I am sure right now he feels overwhelmed, and is just having a hard time. 5 of these horses are already at the track (where they are spoiled ROTTEN).
Good news-----
Kristin Ann (secretariat daughter)
and
Runnin Dirty (capote daughter)
Both have new homes!! I am so excited for them, they really deserve it! Runnin dirty is going to get fattened back up and try her skills at the track again, with a good trainer this time! Kristin Ann is going to be a fabulous pasture ornament in FL (lucky lady, she gets to move to better places then me)... She has been "syndacated" LOL, by three lucky ladies!
I am so happy!!! Lets keep the sales going, these horses need YOU

BTW: The owner of all of these horses also owned Jokester (1988 by Seattle Slew) which is why a few of these guys are sired by him.

10-12 of these horses (or others owned by same man) are in danger of going to a known KB/dealer mid Aug. Not sure which ones but he has such an assortment there is probably something for everyone! Just call Stephanie and ask about them.
Salvisa needs a home, she will go and at 23 not likely to be kept in the resale pen for very long. $250 to have a daughter of Riva Ridge in your back yard???
ETA: the dealer date is actually Sep/Oct sometime.
