Oh my - this poor mare

Postby Bondama » Thu Nov 02, 2006 1:34 pm

Saw this ad in the banner above and clicked on it out of curiousity. I'm sorry, but is it me, or is this mare deformed? Is this one of those "wasp waisted" tb's one hears about? Maybe she's just standing badly and it's an unflattering picture. The ad does say she has a bow.

Yeah, I'd say she's racing lean and possibly the stress of the recent bow has taken it's toll a bit too. She really does look very sad...

I bet life away from the track, some nice groceries on her she'd be a beauty!

I bet so, too. She looks to be a true black and is pretty well bred.

She is not "racing fit" she is starved - she needs some groceries.

She does need some groceries, but I wouldn't say starved. Her ribs and hip bones are not protruding, and from that angle her hind end looks pretty filled in. You know when a horse stands weird sometimes? and they suck their gut in? thats what it looks like to me. The whole angle of the picture and they way she is standing just isn't right.
I've seen starved horses, i got a mare back from a lease this summer, now that was starved.

She is not "Etheopian" starved but she is in a condition that I would be ashamed of unless there was a reason to be that thin and drawn (illness).

I concure that she is thin, yet sometimes the camera angle makes things look much worse than they really are (and this angle is one that makes horses look really bad).

Mare

I see she is listed with Friends of Ferdinand. I have heard good things about this organization/rescue. I believe they will help this mare through her transition period and will put a smile back in her eyes.

The only thing I can remark about this picture is "it's a lousy picture! I need a better one."
