"I got an email from a local woman who has some connections to local racing breeders and trainers. She sent me info about two nice mares that are in need of new homes quickly. The owner will hold on to them until next week and then they will be shipped off to AZ and from there to slaughter. These are really nice mares. This is a really wonderful opportunity to prove to race horse owners that there is a place for their horses after racing instead of ending up at the feedlot. These are both nice mares and although they have current injuries they are expected to recover and be fully sound with proper rest and care.

"My contact visited these mares and here's what she says:
"They are sweet, gentle and they enjoy attention. No biting, nipping or kicking. They have not been in training for approximately 1 month due to injuries. They both maintained their composure extremely well. No chains....plain nylon halter. They did not act foolish in any way. I got an email from the trainer saying they will not keep them for another week. The horses are at Pleasanton race track. The trainer is asking for $500.00 each.... I'm really struck by the lovely bone in both of the mare's legs; really nice conformation. Both mares are moderate size, 15.2 to 15.3. Both have been well handled and are friendly and cheerful."
If you are seriously interested please email me at amboise AT sierratrailrider DOT com and I will pass along the trainer's info and you can contact them directly. These are really nice horses and a great opportunity to show that the local horse community is serious about rescue for OTTBs after their racing careers have ended. We all talk about how terrible it is trainers/owners send them off to the killer buyers, but right now there's no easy for trainers to place these horses. This one is asking a reasonable amount for the horses, the horses are local and they're nice. If you can provide a good home and are looking for a really nice project please consider these mares. It would be great if we could regularly place OTTBs and skip the trauma of the killer buyer and feedlot for all these mares."

Mares at Pleasanton
I spoke with a friend who is a steward at two race tracks in that area. She knows the trainer personally and phoned him about the mares for me. I forwarded my friend the posts on PQ and Final Turn. Yes, Fast Romance, the mare with the bow was placed. The trainer's plans for Queen Cajun, the mare with the slab fracture, have not yet been determined based on several factors. I will pass along updates on Cajun Queen.
Cajun Queen
Sorry, forgot to post this. My friend, who is a steward at the track and friends with the trainer, said the trainer took Cajun Queen back to the ranch.
