Would you mind letting me know what forum this is being posted on? I believe this to be false information. At last year's sale ITOBA devised a plan to prevent this from happening, and it is my understanding that the plan is in effect this year as well. I would like to find out where this information is coming from.

On the other hand, thank you very much for posting about the sale... we hope to have a large turn-out.

Thanks!

TB's... If someone wanted to enter a QH they probably could, but I don't think that has ever come up. We are looking into combining with the QH people for future sales, so we might have more mixed sales in the future.

Hi Roguelet,

It was posted on the Chronicle of the Horse bulletin board. I've gone ahead and edited my original post to remove that sentence. Kudos to ITOBA for their plan! I hope all the horses find great homes. Good thing I'm not closer...I know I'd be tempted...

Thank you! There will be some nice horses there... there always are.

ANY horse ANYwhere can be at risk for slaughter, and I'm sure their only intent by posting that statement is to encourage buyers to attend the sale.

Of course you never know what happens to every horse down the road, but we do our best...

I agree with you Rogue, but crying Wolf is NEVER a good idea.

Eventually, people will become inured to the "oh please, help SAVE these horses from slaughter" and even those pleas will fall on deaf ears.

Roguelet, would you mind sharing your organizations methods of attempting prevention of kill buyers? I'd love to share thoughts & ideas to see if anything you are doing might help us with ideas for here at Fairmount Park next fall. You can email privately if you prefer, [email protected]

Also, I wonder if maybe the original information (where ever it came from) might be because of worry of what might happen to no sales after the sale? (I have no idea, and no detailed knowledge of your paddock sale, just wondering outloud here.....)

Bris... you have a PM. And I'm sure you're right about that person's intentions, but it's just verification that there's someone out there assuming the worst. I guess if it brings more buyers to the sale that's a good thing, but it's just not a tactic I like to use, and I think it's a little unfair to those owners/trainers and those involved in the sale who try to do their best by the horses. No harm done though.
