Wanted: Thoroughbred Stallion of Fabulous Hunter Type

Postby poneez » Sat Aug 18, 2007 12:34 pm

We're looking to find a thoroughbred stallion of impeccable hunter type to join our hunter breeding program.

Candidates must have the following attributes:

Very correct conformation with solid, balanced topline.
Notable hunter type movement - flat-kneed, lovely trot.
Personable, reasonable temperament.
Must ship and load without difficulty.
Must be at least 3 years of age.
Preference given to those of obvious sport horse pedigree.

Open to fellows with less than stellar race careers (although a solid race career is certainly seen as a bonus), and those that need lay-up time. Preference will be given to those capable of being retrained for a career in the hunter ring, but open to those who may not be appropriate for campaigning due to track related injuries as well.

Looking to purchase with terms, lease-to-own, or lease.

The chosen stallion will be provided with a phenomenal, loving forever home at a safe, newly renovated facility, and will be handled by top caliber professionals.

Did you look at the stallion that Waquoit posted about? He is lovely and if you need help getting him from Suffolk , I am near Western NY and can get the necessary paperwork together for shipping to Canada for you.

Thank you, Gerry! :) You are the best.

Poneez, this is the stallion Gerry is referring to. He is free to a good home. He is located at Suffolk Downs in East Boston, MA.

Another great-looking freebie at Suffolk Downs is looking for a home! LORD BALI is a very, very handsome 5-year-old dark bay stallion, 16 hands:

Image

Pedigree:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/lord+bali

He recently sustained a knee fracture and will need another couple of months of stall rest, followed by turnout in a small paddock and then gradual introduction to larger turnout; while he is not going to be suitable for jumping or other strenuous jobs, he may well come sound enough for flatwork and pleasure riding once he finishes recuperating.

With his conformation and attitude, this horse is also QUITE the sporthorse stallion prospect. He is well-mannered and good to handle. Owner just wants to find him a good, safe home, and will give him away to the right person. Lord Bali has Jockey Club papers and a current Coggins.

(Though Lord Bali is free, the new owner will be responsible for making/paying for all shipping arrangements. If you need more than a day or two to arrange shipping, it is customary to offer the trainer a day rate to keep and feed the horse in the meantime.)

Serious inquiries, please, to owner Paul Colone at 617-834-2902 or trainer Tom McCooey at 732-996-1317. Thank you!

Um. Either it is a very bad photo or his back end is not suitable at all confomation-wise for sporthorse breeding.. high short croup, short hip, sickle hocks, etc. He would make a better gelding..

It's just one photo. 8)

Keep in mind, too, he has a broken knee...wasn't exactly standing comfortably.

Anyway, Poneez, feel free to give the owner/trainer a call if you're interested in Lord Bali. And you might want to try the other CANTER sites if this guy isn't what you're looking for.

Many thanks & recommendations still welcome!

Postby poneez » Mon Aug 20, 2007 8:05 am

Many thanks for all of the kind recommendations, and please do keep sending them along.

I do indeed pore over the CANTER sites in hopes of finding our next fellow.

The boys recommended so far are definitely lovely, but none are of what I would consider indisputably hunter type.

If anyone finds it of interest, we invite you to visit our website at www.baystarfarms.ca to view photos of our beloved fellow Flight Of A Falcon - it would provide an excellent idea of the conformation and presence that we're after.

I found "Falco" during his race career, and while it's certainly unlikely to have that luck twice, I do wish to take on a new Thoroughbred lad of that same intense quality.

I do so appreciate the help, please do keep the ideas coming! :)

RE looking for TB stallion

Postby Fairplayfarm » Sat Aug 25, 2007 5:11 pm

I have a friend who is looking to sell or place her stallion "Bold Pic" He has some nice foals on the ground and is a nice looking stallion. This is an old pic of him but you can get the general impression. Let me know if you are intersted in seeing more and I can put you in contact with her.
Thanks

A couple more that I saw...

Postby witherbee » Tue Aug 28, 2007 8:54 am

Falco is lovely!

Here are a couple that I saw:

http://www.canterusa.org/newengland/sal ... ormLad.JPG
If you're breeding for quality and looks, you must meet "Storm Lad"! This stakes-placed Storm Cat grandson lost an eye years ago, but he manages well; he just needs a little extra time to relax and check things out with his good eye when being led to and from his stall. Storm does have some suspensory issues and is best as a stallion prospect. Spend some time with this horse and you'll be duly impressed by his athleticism: he is breathtaking in person, and he will be sure to throw foals with his looks, heart, and lots of athletic ability! Price: $1,500, very negotiable; offers welcome from good homes. Storm Lad is on the farm in Florida. Call Lloyd Lockhart at 617-852-4166.

More of a dressage look, but who knows if you put him over a jump:
http://www.canterusa.org/ohio/sale/imag ... PeeWee.jpg
Pee Wee : 17hh, lovely dressage prospect, gorgeous mover, lovely temperament. This horse is very kind. $3,499.00 call 269-352-3148. Horse located in Michigan. (doesn't say whether he is gelded)

http://www.canterusa.org/southernillino ... onetoo.jpg
6 year old flashy chestnut stallion. 15.2 hands. IM A FAIR ONE TOO is well behaved as a stallion or would be a very quiet gelding after surgery. He needs time off for a recent bow, then should be suitable for flatwork. Stabled at Fairmount Park. $2500. Call Holly Retana at 618-779-1044.

Probably not what you are looking for, but very classic look: http://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-46143

Gorgeous!
http://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-40272

Neck looks short, but could be the picture - otherwose nice:
http://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-38124

decent jump (could be more even, but uses himself well: http://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-36788

WOW - LOVE this one, but price reflects the quality:
http://www.equinenow.com/horse-ad-36339

This one is a Palomino TB with a show record - beautiful!

Similar Tastes...

Postby poneez » Wed Aug 29, 2007 7:37 am

Thanks, witherbee!

I do certainly appreciate the effort. Unfortunately, I've seen each of them before! I'm fairly sure that my search has been quite thorough.

The first fellow, I love. The gentleman has kindly promised him to me if he decides to actually rehome him, but at the moment they are considering standing him themselves.

ImAFairOneToo is indeed cute, but a bit small and has the one questionable front leg. I always hope it's just the way they're standing.

Of the rest, one was auctioned this past weekend (and was more of a dressage type), one is exorbitantly priced for a hunter sire, one doesn't jump anywhere near fancy enough, the one who does has sold, and the others are lovely, but just not the right fit.

It's hard, I'm not willing to negotiate and find myself something that will just "do". No questionable legs, no less than gorgeous heads, and a really nice, balanced topline. Of course, all on a budget!

Hi Poneez - just checking: are you referring to Storm Lad as the horse who will be going to you if his owners don't stand him themselves? I just want to make sure to keep the CANTER NE listings up to date, so if they're leaning toward keeping him, we can pull him off the site.

Thanks! And good luck with your search.
