Mare wanted

Postby myoldkyfarm » Wed Oct 01, 2008 1:14 pm

I almost hate to post due to some members flame-from-nowhere attitude but here goes:

I am looking for an inexpensive older class-producing mare in the central KY area. She will have a permanent home and I am willing to stay in touch with previous owners if they wish to keep track of her.

Feel free to PM me if you have, or know of, a suitable mare.

Why would anyone flame you for wanting to give an older mare a good home? Good luck.

I have a few older mares..... but i'm not located in KY and not sure how older you are looking for..... Best wishes and i'm sure you should be able to find an older mare or two looking for a good home.

The Keeneland November sale or the one in January would be the best place to look. You can get decent older mares in foal for reasonable prices. Especially this year, where the market should be down. http://ww2.keeneland.com/sales/lists/sale/Catalog.aspx?catno=58

there are some gorgeously bred older mares in the way back of the catalog by Diesis, Tremplino, Silver Hawk, Red Ransom, and Private Account to name a few. Now, many of them are barren and have limited years, but many of them are also known producers.

esp. check out hips 5274, 5189, 5169, 5167, 5136 and 5134... my guess is those fine mares will not bring a lot of money. Ah, turf ain't appreciated.

I have been amazed at how many people will jump on someone else for looking for something that they can't find. Also, if somebody publicly offers an old stakesproducing mare cheap, often they will get comments like "you are a bad person for selling her, why don't you keep her forever", "you are a bad person for pricing her so cheap, you must want the killers to get her" etc.

I am looking for:
- an inexpensive mare
- that has a proven produce record: a decent stakes winner and/or several stakes-placed winners and/or 100k+ earners, etc.
- I am only looking in the central KY area.
