I'm listing these mares for a friend who is looking to downsize, I'm not familiar with this market so any input would be greatly appreciated.
I have them listed on 2 sites right now Equinehits.com and Equinenow.com which I've used for riding horses, I re-train racers and have had good luck selling them on these as well as Equine.com and Dreamhorse. I asked the owner of the mares about Starquine.com which is exclusive to the TB industry but he didn't think highly of them or the $150 ea listing fee so I need help in getting them out there where interested buyers would see them.
Here's what I have on the mares and the links where you can see their pedigrees.
1. Tyrol Cot 4yo maiden mare by Carson City out of Tabasco Cat mare Lion Castle in foal to FL stallion Agnes Gold (a millionare winner in Japan) by Sunday Silence.

2. Briefcase Beauty 6 yo mare by Notebook out of Court Trial mare Pleasant Courtney in foal to Smooth Jazz a NY stallion by Storm Boot. Her 1st foal was a 2008 colt by Teton Forest.

We're asking $6,000 each or $10,00 for the pair with all fees paid and they are located at Buckridge Farm.

They're both by good broodmare sires but they don't have much going for them other than that and in the current market the owner would be lucky to get $1,000 each for them. Nobody likes to hear that when they've got a lot more than that invested in them, but it's the reality right now. Good luck though.

I have to agree.... they have dandy sires, but have done nothing in production and are bred to regional sires. I might have said $2000 each , but that's probably the top.
It's a hard market right now, and the black type has to be right up front on catalog pages. I'm looking hard at my own small group of mares and going to have to make some very tough decisions about 2009 matings. As of now, I MIGHT breed two of my mares. Even with all of the incentives in Indiana, I'm just not sure I can swing everything I need to do to make it all work out.

I feel your pain. Similar to putting 10k in training into a horse to be able to sell it for 5k a lot of people are having to put 10k into a stud fee on a mare just to get someone to buy her for 5k. And they're letting them go like that to reduce their costs of caring for a large number of mares.

Dont know.....
I have had more horses sell in the last two months (for what I would have asked for them 3 years ago) then I have had in 2 years!
The market is coming back.... People with EXCESS money, still have EXCESS money.
I do have show/breeding for show horses, so I know that is different than race... BUT, there is still a market.
Just sold a 5k weanling future show horse the other day (Last Tuesday) and delivered him on Sunday... Took him all the way to northern PA. No haggling at all about the price!

No doubt there is still a strong market for desirable horses.
I've got a couple a mares I'm going to try and get towards the end of Keeneland sale and I'm not expecting to get them for nothing as I've watched some on my short list selling the last couple of days for fairly strong prices. As usual a lot of people seem to have a short list that mirrors mine and the ones we all want sell well. At the same time those that you couldn't pay me to take are apparently also on others "you couldn't pay me to take them" list and those sell for little or nothing or don't sell at all.
With that said even the strong selling ones are selling for about 30% less than what they would have sold for last year but that may not neccessarily make them a steal because bloodstock prices may never gain back this 30% correction and in the long run it would probably be best if bloodstock prices don't ever gain back the 30% correction. The purses at the end of the rainbow just don't justify the bloodstock prices of last year and some of the years before that. People caught in this transistion period are taking a whacking, but in the future if you pay 30% less for a decent mare and pay 30% less for a stud fee, then you can still make a profit selling the produce at a 30% discount from the prices of olad and the person buying them at a 30% discount has a little better chance of not totally losing their rears when they race them as they've got 30% less invested and are running for about the same purses as they were when they were paying 30% more for their stock.

Nice post, HYP. I very much agree with you. And, I always have the same short list as everyone else, too. Good taste, I guess.
