She is breeding sound...Miracle is just one of those mares that develops a very small follicle and must be bred accordingly, for her our vet determined at .35-.40.
Her previous owner/breeder did not race her, she was premature, apparently spending a lot of time in the hands of the OSU Veterniary hospital the first year...he did attempted to breed her, however, the farm vet as we understand, visited every 7-10 days to his farm in Ohio and they transported Miracle to & from the breeding shed in Kentucky based on speculative ovulation dates. We have our vet visit at least twice a week during breeding season, perform ultrasounds each visit, as each one of our mares are SO very different.
We purchased her knowing this in 2007 and spent the 2008 breeding season with our vet determinig, for fact, she is able to conceive, she simply produces a small follicle, needing to be monitored closely and bred when her follicle is in the .35-.40 range. I have spoken to several stallion managers in Kentucky and found this is not as uncommon as I had thought. They told me it is manageable, you just need to know "each" of your mares
Miracle is breeding sound....once her "breeding quirk" was determined, the "plan" was to breed her this past season, however, due to circumstances beyond our control, she was not bred and we will not be breeding this upcoming year.
