Purebred TB Mare With One Blue Eye And Faded Dorsal Stripe

Postby MattieCat » Wed Jul 27, 2011 5:56 pm

Hello, I am currently putting Its Blue up for sale. She is, as it says in the title, a purebred TB mare with a blue eye and a faded dorsal stripe. Blue is a 15.2h bay mare, but not a dun, which is why her dorsal stripe is interesting. She is NOT an overo so if you want to cover her to a nice overo stud you have a chance at a foal with a blue eye or even two! She is broke but hasn't been ridden in a while. PM/e-mail me on offers, great mare.

Okay, a bit more about Blue:
Her registered name is Its Blue and she is 17 years old. She is broke in English but is limited on how much she can jump. We also haven't ridden her in a year or two so best that you get an experienced rider on her at first so that she can get a feel of riding again. She was owned by her breeder for 14 years and was used as a child's jumper horse then sold to someone and they kept her for 2 years. The woman became pregnant and could no longer keep the horse so they sold Blue to us. She has no lameness and no vices but she is out of shape(a little chubby, not completely fat though).

I have a sorrel (light chestnut) mare with a dorsel strip so it is not that uncommon. I think the sun plays a part.

That's great!! My mom says 'Dorsal' stripes in thoroughbreds who don't have primitive striping on their legs or leg barring are typically the result of countershading (or darker hair colors overlaying on lighter hair colors). When the sun bleaches them out, you see the darker colors remain. Since darker colored hair typically starts from the top down, they fade last. This is what looks like dorsal striping. Most true duns (like dun QH's) will have accompanying legbarring and/or primitive striping patterns in between their back legs or on their barrels. Blue does not have the primitive striping or leg barring, so she is not likely a true dun, but the dorsal stripe is pretty cool.:)
