Mare by Chief's Crown o/o English & Irish Champion: $750

Postby ZiaLand » Tue Sep 27, 2005 3:58 pm

This 16 YO mare's name is Coast Wind and she's listed on Starquine for $750.00. I wanted to point her out because even though she hasn't produced any real talent, there's a lot to like about her pedigree.

http://www.starquine.com/mare_detail_new_auction_new.asp?id=5196

Her dam Blue Wind (IRE) was a 3YO Champion in England and Ireland. Her female family produced Wilko, Taiki Treasure ($2.8M earnings, by Miswaki) Happy Path ($2.0M, by Sunday Silence), Taiki Marshall ($1.9M, Dance of Life), Taiki El Dorado ($1.2M, Theatrical) and many, many, many other stakes horses. (There are so many blacktype horses under the 2nd dam that the 3rd and 4th aren't even listed. Coast Wind's GSV is 74.44!

She's a gamble, but with the right stallion....who knows. The genetic potential certainly seems to be there. Ad says she has no vices and is sound. Interesting...

I wanted her ... BAD... to breed to Perfect Circle (proven nick Unbridled X Chief's Crown) but am lacking extra money for a mare...
If she is still available that is really scary
...
She is WELL worth the gamble for $750!

Somebody buy her and I'll give you a free breeding to Perfect Circle for her!!

I have seen that mare on the market for a while- she was for sale a two/three years ago for 5k I think --- but I thought she was infoal- looks tough to get into foal, but I don't know if it is a common thing because I had a Chiefs crown mare, that slipped continually for everyone that had her about the same age, bought her for 800 infoal slipped two weeks later, and the next year I got her pregnant she held it had the most beautiful filly I sold the pair and she hasn't even gotten pregnant since! With her it was just a lot of molly coddling, and she carried past term, and was real healthy.
Personally if I was in US, I would obviously take the gamble, as I was thinking about it at 5k!

I live in the same city as the seller of this mare. And I think she is a bargain. And paying $750 for the mare is not a problem. The real problem is I'm not ready for the financial committment in paying $400/month in boarding fees for the mare.

Anyone interested in splitting the cost with me? :)

Sounds like you & Karie should work something out!! :D

Her stallion is awesome... the Unbridled/Chief's Crown cross can be found in Eddington's pedigree... and, in this case, you'd double up on the Miss Carmie bloodlines... I did a hypo-mating, and the pedigree looks pretty nice! :D

Just my two cents! :D

I called the owner, she was still available as of last week.

Karie, if you're really interested, PM me, and if some how we can work out some sort of boarding arrangement, let me know. As I said before, I'm not too concern about the initial investment, it is more the monthly up keep that I'm concern about.

William It might be fun, co-operate with Kari, because both interest are
to be joined in a might be deal. Splitting the cost, and having both the excitement.
But looks to it, she didn,t anything of importance in the last couple of years I suppose, I don,t have any data.
Luck to both of you

I would have liked to have had her, but I already have 1 too many mares. I currently have 2 Chief's Crown mares and I certainly would not be scared to own another. They really haven't had any more problems than other bloodlines.

I called over three weeks ago and never got a call back...figured she must be sold, I called a couple of times. That will p me off (excuse my language) because i just bought that Latin American mare to breed to Karie's stud instead!

Ok... I saw in the local ad, the price on this mare has been reduced to $500 Canadian $, which is like $420 US$.

If anyone in the forum buys this mare, please let me know. I'd like to keep track of her to see how she produces.

Thanks,
Laurie
