Weanling colt--Registered Slew's Dancin Man FS

Postby vineyridge » Fri Dec 30, 2005 3:59 am

I bought this baby on impulse and am way in over my head. Need to find a new home for him, with someone who is used to dealing with foals. Bramalea female family.

Price is 1200 OBO.

He was born May 5, 2005, and I will try and take pictures of him. He has had a snotty nose for the last six weeks, but it seems to be improving.

If interested, please PM.

Where are you located and has a vet been out to see about the nose? Is he getting adequate shelter? Was he bought at an auction or from a private seller? What is his jc registered name?

Three different vets have been out to see about his nose. It's probably just a very hard to shake virus that has to run its course, but he is getting a course of SMZ to ward off secondary infection. He has all the shelter he wants, since the stall doors are open at all times.

We are in Mississippi.

JC registered name is Slews Dancin Man. He's in the database here.

I bought him at the State University "production" auction. Had no idea that little stud colts were so different from fillies. He's a little pistol, and I am clueless about how he should be handled. He's very close to being gelded, but I hate to do it to a seven month old. He's halter broken, more or less, leads, and loves being brushed and scratched on the butt.

Go ahead and geld him. We have a devil baby who has already had some of his "horns" removed. If he's halter broken and not afraid to be touched, you can work through this. If you're planning to race him, NOT a lot needs to be done with him until the summer. You can tranquilize him for the farrier and if he isn't scared to be touched, you can vaccinate him, too.

I was once witness to the youngest castration our vet had ever done. 3 months old. The colt had the best of care and handling and was an absolute dangerous terror. Changed him completely and there were no side-effects with a good vet. 7 months should be fine.

I thought if anyone were interested in him as a racing prospect that they would like to have him intact.

Price is totally negotiable.

I've blown out my rotator cuff and need to be getting out of horses.
