Broodmare Values...

Postby EasternGale » Wed May 24, 2006 10:56 am

We have two currently running...

One is a 6YO Chestnut Mare named Eastern Gale. She is running at Monmouth this year in her last year of racing. She is a 2-time NJ-bred stakes winner and has placed in every stake she's run in that she hasn't won except 2. She's earned about $220K or so in her career. She's pretty sound and will run this year before she's retired. She is by Northern Idol out of Cayenne Gale by Better Arbitor. Does anyone have any idea how much she's actually worth as a broodmare?

We also have a 4YO Filly named Stone Hope. I am not implying that she'll be retired any time soon, but she has a nice pedigree. She's a MSW winner and placed in an allowance and has run 7 times. We are looking to get her on the grass though where she can excel because she is a half to a grass winner and her dam is a half to Bernard Baruch Handicap winner Furiously. But she's a half to 3YO colt Brilliant, who has the looks of a future Graded Stakes Winner on the grass this year. She also has another half who is a 2YO of this year who is a full to Brilliant and a half who is a weanling of this year by Seeking the Gold. Any idea how much she is worth as a broodmare and how nice of a pedigree she has? She is by Grindstone out of Fairest by In Reality.

Eastern Gale -I would say around 40,000 if she is correct and has good size, if she has a flaw in her conformation or is small 15.3 or less i put her around 20,000.

Stone Hope-- right now 25,000-35,000 but if Brilliant wins or places in a couple graded stakes that number would go to low six digits, but if you want to dream and he wins a couple grade 1's this summer $250,000.

Thanks for the input Brian...EG is a very tough, well-built mare with some good size to her.

Hopefully SH can add some value to her when she gets on the grass in her own area, meaning based on her ability on the grass, but I think it's very reasonable that Brilliant ends up winning or placing in Graded Stakes, and I wouldn't even say he can't win a G1 this year...his last race at Churchill was scintillating, with the run he put in and the way he came home in the stretch. I mean, he finished his final 1/8th in under 11.5. He's a serious runner.

According to today's TDN, Brilliant will be making his next start in the G2 Jefferson Cup on June 17th.

Best of luck!

Brilliant won the Jefferson Cup (G2) today at Churchill Downs. A nice update on your mare's page. :)

Certainly looks good and upgrades the page. Hopefully Howard will point to the Arlington Park 3YO turf series aiming for a grand display in the G1 Secretariat Stakes. Brilliant also has a full brother who is a 2YO of this year, Equal.
