GP Allow.NW2

Postby TJ » Fri Feb 15, 2008 2:28 pm

Hey Roke,
Remember this discussion a while back about racing conditions. Some said they don't write this race anymore and that the race is now NW1/OT. Take a look at the 9th at GP Saturday, a simple old condition...Allowance: For Fillies 3 Years Old Which Have Never Won Two Races. A blast from the past :D . TJ

i was the one who posed that question.

Now by that do they mean Non winners other than or maiden or do they mean literarly NW2x race?

BDW,
I wrote out the actual race condition above. Allowance N2L. All you will find in this race are horses that broke their maiden, be it MDSPWT or MDN. CLMG. There will not be a horse in this race that won 2 races, even claiming, it isn't a NW1/OT maiden, clmg. or starter. A simple condition the way it was written years ago, next condition would be just as simple NW3L, meaning broke their maiden and won another race. They could be allowance wins or claiming wins or combination of either. But no horse will be in that race that won more than 2 races and so on through the allowance conditions. They have gotten away from these simple conditions as they find the other type allowance conditions fill better...yet this one has 11 entered. TJ

TJ,

I see that condition quite a lot with 2 year olds and straight 3 year olds, where the "other than" doesn't really come into play yet. You still get them more often at B tracks as well.

Hi Ascot,
What neck of the woods is that condition still being used often? It's very seldom seen down here (FL) or in NY for that matter. Anyway for me it was a blast from the past, now I'm going to see if I can pick that winner...shouldn't be too hard given the simple conditions of the race  . TJ

there's actually one at Oaklawn tomorrow for 3 and up boys. Woodbine writes a B level (purse is 60% of the normal allowances) 2L and 3L allowances. They also write the Ontario Sired NW2L and 3L. I think Mountaineer even writes a 4L allowance.

looked at the race very quickly...it actually looks like a decent betting race. I'll need to spend more time on it later tonight.

Thanks Ascot, I just looked at that one you mentioned in Oaklawn, just 6 horses and no 3YO's in there. It's short fields like that which forces the race sec's to use the other NW2/OT condition more often so they can get bigger fields entered:>) TJ

Mountain and Ctown write the 2L 3L allowance races. One runs for 29k, I believe the other is 24.

Hi Ascot,
The 2, 6 and 11 are out, looks like the race may have no value. She's All Eltish has been talked up at CRC since before her 1st race, returns to dirt today. Looking at Wasted Tears for a little value, IF (this word was created for horse racing) she handles the dirt. Back for More was impressive breaking her maiden here last month, under a hand ride, as was Wish me Success at the Spa. What say you, Ascot? :>) TJ

Hi Foggy,
How do those races fill there? TJ

I'm using the 1,5,8,9,10 in my Magna 5 ticket, my only deep race. I really liked the Jerkens filly, 25% 1st blinks and 42% 1st lasix...but she's out.

I like Wish Me Success, pretty impressive maiden win and Kimmel 27% off the shelf. Wasted tears is the one I hope wins, best price. I like Najran, my brother has a really nice 2yo's by him and one of my mares just dropped a filly by him too, so it would nice to see him get a decent horse running out there.

I don't really like the Pletcher and She's All Eltish, but I'm not dumb enough to leave them off my ticket.

A 1,5,8 tri would probably be pretty decent.

Thanks Ascot, I think I'll watch that one...I forgot about the Stronach horse and it's just gonna get to be too many shots.
Actually the whole GP card seems chalky (of the races I like to dabble with)....the only race I see some value is in that 6th race. Cheap claiming race, but it looks like Howie Tesher is trying to break his losing streak with a drop down. I think he will try to wire this group....if they don't bet him off the board I'll give him a tumble:>) Gonna use the 6, 11, 7 and 9 under. Good luck with your Magna 5. TJ
