I've been handicapping for years, but as a general rule don't put any money down. Well, being newly 18, I would like to actually bet the derby this year. Thing is, I don't actually know how one does that from home in Chicago.
I know it's a pretty ridiculous question, but can anyone tell me how to place a bet on this darn race?!?

I use xpressbet.com. It's free to sign up, I believe you will only be able to bet on certain races that day though. I know the derby is one of them.

Online wagering is only available on the Derby today. You could look at twinspires.com, youbet.com, tvg.com, etc.

Why can't we bet at CD on the other races beside the 9th and the Derby??
Also, can someone explain how the over/under works??? What are the odds?
Thanks

My understanding of the online betting issue this meet at CD is as follows. Apparently, the horsemen have to sign off and approve online betting. They have been asking for purses to be increased. Their viewpoint is that CD earns so much more money with online betting. CD has steadfastly refused to increase purses, so this year the horsemen refused to sign off on the online betting.
As an aside, I have noticed every year Churchill builds more facilities for fans, to rake in more cash. They swallow up more land and build parking lots (again, more revenue) . They have increased staff (higher payroll). But they have not built a new barn or increased the backside in something like 30 years. Trainers have to paint their own barn if they want it to look decent. Do their own landscaping. There are NO additional facilities to speak of for horses or horsemen. The backside workers' educational facility was built by DONORS. But without the horses and the horsemen there would be NO RACING. Oh well. This year the trainers decided to kick 'em where it REALLY hurts. Just my opinion.

Thanks all! I just placed my bets on xpress bet.
Second stupid question: In regards to odds, do you get paid the final odds or the current odds when you place your bet if you win?

over /under ... the track comes up with the number adding the numbers of the saddle cloths finishing I believe 1st and 2nd, or 1st 2nd and 3rd, and if you bet over, and hte saddle cloths add up to being over you get that payout.
