New broodmare

Postby Derby Lyn » Thu Jun 24, 2010 4:54 pm

I brought my new broodmare home today. I am very excited about her. Her name is Fondly, by Don't Hesitate out of Social Engagement. She has a nice show record on her. I am undecided on who to breed her to at the moment, but I should be making a decision quickly!

Tidy jumper! Are you looking to stay with a H/J/Eventing type foal?
How tall is she, and do you want to try and change the base coat to bay
or dilute, chrome? If you can decide on that then go for the stallion that
could correct any faults if she has any.

Hey - what happened to your "downsizing" plan???! (probably the same thing that happened to mine I guess ... )

She looks lovely Katie - I look forward to seeing updated pictures when she gets home as well ... :)

Thanks, I will have to get some conformation shots of her.

I am not too picky on coat color with her, but I think I would like to cross her with a warmblood. I still have that breeding to Redwine 8) The mare did mostly jumpers, but she is a decent enough mover to do hunters. I think I would like to focus more towards hunters with her.

Even with a new mare coming in, I am downsizing still. I have sold a few other horses, so I am down to a decent and manageable number. Anything is better then 20+ horses. No stallions this year  , and with this mare I will have 2 tb mares and only plan on breeding those 2.

Here is a confo shot of my mare. Image[img]

The pic is a little blurry, but you can see her funny sock/want to be a stocking on her front leg. She also has the hugest gaskins on a tb mare that I have ever seen. She is really muscled up nicely.

Still debating on Redwine or Quest for Gold. I don't really have the funds to send her out this year to another stallion. The only reason I hesitate on Redwine is b/c I don't have a good repro vet. I am worried I will waste my time and money and have no prego mare. [/img]

If you are going to focus on hunters you will want to look at studs with an exceptional shoulder. Hers is upright, which is why she jumps with her knees low. Thats fine in the jumpers, if she is fast and careful, but will cost points for a hunter if she passes that along. She has a nice back and a big engine behind :)

Thanks Amanda. That is her biggest fault is her shoulder. Wish I hadn't sold Smoked Gold to RI. He had the best shoulder on any tb I have seen. What do you think of the shoulder on Quest [img][/img]

I already know that I have a problem  I found THE girlfriend for Redwine. http://www.pedigreequery.com/pale+fire2

She is a 16.2h chestnut mare with 3 socks and a blaze. And she is already appproved Oldenburg :D I love the Halo lines, plus she was a decent racer. She is a great match for Redwine, and the other mares will be bred to Quest for Gold. I will have to get some pics of her.
