"Ended up bombing" doesn't mean that he died, just that it run a very bad race.

He had some bleeding from what I heard (was pulled up) but will be okay. Gorgeous horse!

So, ya all think he may be black and not dark bay?

His sire is black so I'm not altogether surprised.

Judging by his muzzle---he looks pretty darn black.
Somebody bet on the gray!

The look of that gorgeous black horse was what I was hoping to get when I bred Emmy to him. I got a bright blood bay, the only thing from Devil she got was the rear white bracelet on her leg!!!!

Have always wanted a black beauty TB, but other than Sunday Silence, DHD, his son Roses in May, Halo, War Emblem, not many pure black horses have done much lately.... if any have any others that did well please post.

There was Black Gold, a gorgeous one, and that champion horse out west..something Diver, wasn't he black also?? I can't remember his name darn it. help!

Straight Story has won some races in NY recently.
Can't remember if he's registered black but pretty sure he IS. 8)

 OK, somebody, please help me.....

Lady Giacomo is a registered black mare/filly etc., but her sire is grey and I did not see any black horses in his pedigree

Her dam, it says is a dark bay, and has chestnuts in her pedigree, alot of them.

Now HOW does she come out a pure black???

I bred my bay mare to Devil His Due, a pure black, with black in his pedigree, and got a bay again. A very nice one, don't get me wrong, DHD sires very sturdy horses, and he himself was a very sound horse, but what gives here????

Jorge, anyone, do you know what happened here? :?:

This article might help you a good deal:
http://www.accphotography.com/genetics.shtml

When you breed a bay mare to a black you have at LEAST a 50% chance of getting a bay foal and it may be 100% depending on the mare's genetics. Black is recessive to all forms of "bay".

The gray sire could easily have been black before he went gray and just didn't pass his gray. Or he could have even been chestnut or bay before turning gray and still have an 'a' (black) allele to pass. With black being recessive you don't always see it. :)
