Thank you very much for bringing up this case.
Blue Eyed Streaker is a very interesting Thoroughbred. He is also related to Tri Chrome, another sui-generis case. If I were to expect something quite unique, he is one of the few to watch.
Thanks again.

When I look at the sire Blue Eyed Streaker and the color of his eyes I immediately wonder if there is any possble connection between him and the champagnes. But of course it's only speculative.

The color of the eyes seems to be like those of the champagnes when born. But as clearly cited, its only speculative. No proof at all.

Jorge,

With your interest in Champagnes, have you ever heard of the American folksong "The Tennessee Stud"?

It has the line "..color of the sun, and his eyes were green" later in the song

"The Tennessee Studs green eyes turned blue.."

Champagne breeders take this as a sign that the gene has been present in the breed for a long time.

So is this mare (subject of the topic) an overo simply due to the white spot on her side? My TB mare has two huge belly spots.....does that make her an overo, too?

I read something about a Johnny Cash song with those lyrics. Yes I am also convinced that the pattern is not new, at least not originating during the 1960s. But since the observers have to post a beginning they draw a line somewhere along the way. As per making an assessment on specific cases, hmmm, I let the theories for the experts, which I am not ---just an observer. But I always remember that Federico Tesio thought it was impossible for whites to appear among Thoroughbreds and now you see.
The same can be theorized about genuine "roans", but watch Slip Catch's progeny.

Spotmetothewire is APHA registered as overo. Most of us associate overo with frame, but in the APHA world it describes the phenotype, not necessarily the genotype. (from my understanding) She is a sabino overo, and her sire, Hard Wire by Phone Trick, had two other offspring with white markings that qualified them for regular registry with the APHA. She has interesting eyes in that she doesn't have the white sclera that make her look "bug eyed" like some sabinos, but has pink pigment on her third eye lids. "Spot" has a sibling with very high whites, huge blaze, and a large belly splash extending up onto the right side of his barrel. I haven't seen photos of the other sibling. Silver Patch is about 7 years old and is still a stallion. The owner/ breeder contacted me last year to see if I would be interested in him. If anyone would like his photos and may have interest, I can check with the owner to see if he's still available. He's just being admired in the field right now and could use a job if they still have him. He's quite beautiful.

Champagne doesn't exist in TBs. It is dominant and cannot "hide". Blue eyes are usually associated with splash and frame genes, sabinos are usually dark eyed unless frame or splash are present.

No ordinary chestnut here.........looks a little bit like champagne, don't jump on me, just my opinion! What do you think Jorge?? Neat hugh?

I think he's either body clipped or sun faded. He's not champagne (or he's not TB if he is!). :D
