Black TB sires with white leg markings.......how many?

Postby Jorge » Sun May 10, 2009 7:01 am

While browsing the photo of Redwine (a Warmblood)
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/redwine
I asked myself: How many similar looking, but BLACK THOROUGHBREDS
are ALIVE AND SERVING TODAY at stud?
I am sure we can match Redwine.

Oooo Jorge - thats a tough one for sure!

Bold Phantom Go is the ONLY one that comes to mind. Dalene had the lovely black stallion that I believe has passed on. Red Fox farm in TX also had Tuxedo that has also passed away so unless there is one that us colour breeders havent stumbled across just yet, I cannot think of any other ones out there at all ...

Hopefully someone else can add more to this ... I'd be very interested in knowing of more as well

OK I need to share.

I went over to our weekend feeders home this weekend. She was showing me her 2 horses. A huge percheron cross and a beautiful black gelding. THe first thing I noticed about him was that he looked thoroughbred. Sure enough, he has a tattoo (I could not read it). He is at least 16.2.

Most important: He had two front stockings past the knee and a huge blaze that wrapped around his nose. He also had 2 large belly spots. Im on a mission to find out who he is now. He is definatly black. On a side note....I think he would have made a BEAUTIFUL stallion as he is really put together. Will get photos this week. By the way, she was laughing at me, not understanding what I thought the big deal was LOL!

I'll also add that the light area you see on Redwine's shoulder in the photo is lots of roaning, not sweat or a artifact on the photo, so perhaps rabicano too?

Sanctuary is being advertised as standing in FL.

Both are correct. The close-up photo is more telltelling than the conformation angle. Wow, but if I were to select a brown sire....bingo!
Thanks for your comments.

I doubt there's many out there if at all, but I would not kick a Sanctuary daughter out of my barn if she had a quality family behind her.

He's got one of the best pedigrees in the studbook. Unfortunately, he couldn't run up to it on the track and is probably best suited for color/sporthorse breeding. But he could be very useful if you're looking to get a filly as a future broodmare.

I wouldnt rule him out of being black just because he has some lightness in his flank.

This mare is black, she is just sun faded

The fade on the flank is fine but the brown on the nose is another thing entirely.
