Rachel Alexandra's face marking

Very odd. I've seen "interrupted" blazes before, but this doesn't look like one. It looks like the white of the blaze is overlayed with a darker color. Definitely looks darker to me than the rest of her face.
Any comments?

Having seen her up close and personal it IS darker than the rest of her face.

A friend of mine and I have theorized that its a large bend or on her face.

Does she have have lots of Birdcatcher spots too? There seemed to be lots of little white spots under her saddle.

If you mean after the race, I'm pretty sure those were flower petals. I didn't see any marks on her in any of the other shots I've seen.

Her face looks like your typical mahogany bay with a type of counter shading down the nose. You can see it on the right side just behind the second half of her blaze before it goes over. It is very dark but doesn't look dark enough to be a Bend Or spot to me.

Now that she is far more famous, detailed phenotypical photos will appear ---hopefully!

Almost any bay horse is darker down the middle of its face than the sides. Both mine have a distinct darker region down the middle, then the sides are much lighter. This is very typical of bays, esp. those kept out of the midday sun, not some odd color variation.
