Orange colored Thoroughbred

Postby Jorge » Sun Jun 14, 2009 6:51 am

From time to time we hear people assuring us to have seen a completely orange-colored horse. While browsing this pedigree it came to me the question: Have we witnessed a real orange-looking Thoroughbred. Well, I guess he/she must be registered as "bay", right? Any occurrences?

Little confused as to what you mean by orange....like a really pumpkin colored chestnut?

Or were you looking for something different??

Heres an "orange" one. Not a TB. But orange none the less. Also shes black.

Something in the neighborhood of this tone, perhaps even with more brightness:

If she is any sort of dun, shes a grulla.

She was born with too big of a blanket/spotting to see a dorsal so the only dun factor visible is her leg bars.

Her sire is believed to be dun, but I have seen very convincing leg bars on horses who were NOT dun, to say that she is dun based on just them.

And ok Jorge now THAT is orange LOL....Ill keep my eye out...Ive seen a few that Ive thought WOW thats orange! Not sure if any were that orange though!

ETA:Heres one thats close. Its a bit more browninsh orange

I took the "She is black" sarcastically, as if someone made a mistake in the ad for her or something. I doubt highly she is registered black. If she is any dun it would be red dun as her base coat is sorrel. Her flaxen mane and tail are a giveaway to that fact.

Nope...The she is black is NOT sarcastic in ANY way.

Her base is NOT sorrel.

Her base is BLACK. Eeaa to be 100% accurate.

I don't know. "Orange" just sounds like certain shades of chestnut (at certain times of year) to me.

Here is a picture of a somewhat orangy TB. His name is Flaming Pleasure, and is a "cousin" to my mare, Diplomatic Pleasure. I think he's quite handsome!

And then, this is my mare, who is also very bright. In addition to that big star, she also has large belly spots, roaning and a white tailhead.

My bad LOL! I didnt know she was yours and thought maybe you had come across an ad that didnt make sense :) She is gorgeous though. If you tell me she is broke to ride I know someone who would be interested for her daugher who is specifically looking for a leopard or near leopard appaloosa.
