My boys in the snow.

Ok so you are probably all fed up with snow over there lol.....but we don't often have much over here near London...in fact when we do have snow here it brings the whole country to a halt!..I know it's pathetic but it's true!

My horses have been in for a couple of days as the pathways to the fields are like sheet ice so it has been safer to keep them in. I did manage to get the younger ones safely to our sand school for some turnout though

I took some pics of two of my boys..Aurumba aka Crinkle and Ambassador aka Bassy...they are both yearlings rising 2yo.

The snow may be pretty and white but it shows up how dirty they are where their rugs (blankets) don't cover lol

Sorry the quality isn't very good....I'm pretty useless with my camera.

Its snowed Up North as well we were frozen solid house barns everything not ready for -8 but we are now we are so not used to this cold here in north yorks but my old home near Buxton was bitter every winter 1,000 feet above sea level got very cold. have a great Christmas xx

I know there are stunning appys...I'm just not an appy fan lol. The last appy I had ate my bridle and was so stubborn! Haven't owned one since but I have seen many very nice looking ones. I tend to like the ones with a lot of tb blood in them.

They are both good boys and very affectionate..they have different charactors though..Crinkle is very polite and gentle whereas Bassy's is the first to investigate and demand attention first lol

They are both by Gwens RFF The Alchemist....I sent my TB mare Samba Beat to Germany to be covered (Crinkles mum) and the next year sent my other mare Money Box to Germany but she didn't get in foal so I bought Bassy from Gwen instead of having a Free return..he came to England when he was 7 months old. Bassy's mum is a Knabstrupper.
He has had lots of compliments about his colour at home and at shows ..but most people do think he is an appy lol

I hope to take them and my other yearling Joydens Glitterman aka Goldie (TB x Welsh section B) to the ZfDp grading here in the UK next year..also Electrum too.

I'm not showing them in the Winter so they are just being horses..playing, eating and growing

Crinkle is about 15.2hh at the moment..taller than his mum so I guess he'll end up around 16hh? and Bassy is now taller than Crinkle and just under 16hh..so I guess he'll end up about 16.2hh?
Goldie is about 13.3hh and I really don't know what height he'll end up as mum is 16hh and dad is 12.1hh lol
Electrum has grown much taller and bigger boned than I expected and is over 16.1hh now!
It's funny how you can't wait to see how they turn out but then end up wishing they were babies again lol

I've got two foals here by my old grey TB stallion Scallys Missile aka Rocky ...but they don't belong to me.
Next year I haven't got any foals due ..but plan to cover my mares with Electrum..I tried covering with him earlier this year but he was too immature so I left them empty as I didn't want to keep trying and end up with late foals plus people have since told me it's not a good idea to cover with a 2yo as could mess their fertility up!

I'm going on a course in February to be an A.I. technician..I'm nervous about it as I'm not an academic but a practical person..just hope I can remember all the tech stuff!

Hi Heather (Angrove) I went to Olympia tonight with my daughter Laura...luckily we managed to get to London and home again on the trains as it started snowing again and we were told people working in London were taking 5 hours to get home!!!

I hope you are keeping warm in Yorkshire...my lasting memory of Yorkshire was taking my mare to stud in Thirsk many moons ago in February and having to sleep overnight in my horsebox on the coldest day they had that year....I have never been so cold in my life!!!...there was frost on the duvet and I couldn't sleep all night I was so cold.
In the morning we popped back to the stud to see my mare and the stud manager (he wasn't there the night before) and he said we could have stayed in the central heated staff flat as it was empty!
He made us breakfast in a lovely big farmhouse kitchen with an aga and let us warm up before travelling home

I've stayed in Buxton too ..seen the Opera House too! ...I went on a riding holiday when I was 17yo and the stables were in Chapel en le Frith, we were jumping the stone walls!..it wasn't cold lol it was beautiful in the Summertime

OMG thats so uncanny I lived in a wonderful small village near Chapel-en-leFrith called Kettleshulme, its so pretty and has wonderful moorland were we use to train the pointers, over the stone walls and the gorse, up hills that were 1 in 4 we were quiet high up 1,000 feet above sea level was it Thornton, or Louella I know John Day Ex of Thornton stud hes a very dear friend he stood Kris, and I was luck enough to be given Kris Headcollar with his name on it I will treasure it.
Have a brilliant Christmas and very good luck for Electrum next year i see you have him on Stallion on line great add and thats hes going to groombridge stud, I have now sold Tosca my painted Tb mare to eventer Claire Pennick and she bought Split as her future event prospect also.
But she has your no as I know she want to try to breed white splashy Tb's to event.
we have been very lucky to be given from a trainer who very ill his two best broodmares winner of over £30,000 so I had to make room and sold four mares to reduce the number and increase the quaility of what we are breeding.

The place I rode at in Chapel en le Frith was owned by the chairman (at the time) of the Association of British Riding Schools but I can't remember her name..her daughter evented..I think her name was Nicky.. does that ring any bells?
It was the Louella Stud in Thirsk..Don Chambers was the stud manager there..he was a lovely man ...he died but I think they closed it before as he was getting old....they then moved all the racehorse stallions down to Leicestershire to their sporthorse stud.
It was Primitive Rising I sent my mare to and a couple of years later I sent my other mare to him also...he was gorgeous!

Wow you have Kris's headcollar!..what a fantastic gift!...I'd treasure it too
There was a mare in the December Ascot catalogue that was a grand daughter of Doubly Sure (Kris's dam)...what a great broodmare she was!
Jorge you may want to look up Doubly Sure..she bred some fantastic horses
Kris's sister (half I think) was the dam of Perpendicular that the Louella Stud owned also

That is great you have some new broodmares.....totally agree with your strategy.

I'm still upset I missed out on two mares I saw at Ascot in November
I'd gone to watch John Dunlops dispersal sale of show hunters and saw two black type mares from darley that were exactly what I wanted...just didn't have the money to spend at the time ...they went for peanuts but it was 'right place, wrong time' for me .
When I sell my place I will try and find a couple of nice black type mares but until then I won't add to my herd lol

Glad Tosca has gone to an event rider...please keep me updated and how they both do

Do you all remember the first foal ever by Secretariat?

It was not out of a TB mare, but by an appy mare, I forgot her name, but the foals name was First Secretary.

He was SO gorgeous, the red chestnut color of Secretariat but he had a nice proper little blanket of spots on his rear end! I don't know if he is still alive or not, but that was one fine appy.

Appy racing used to be big; don't kow if it still is or not, but I remember a filly named We Go Easy that would beat anything she raced, colts, geldings, older males, anything. Her brother, also a champion, was aptly named Easy we Go!

If anyone has any photos of these wonderful horses can you please post?

Are no cant say I know Nicky, as I have always been in to Coloured horses from the 80's anyway it was a very very small and wonderful world back then we were fighting the prejudices of many whom hated the coloured horse Gypsy ramifications it was fun to get coloured on the map way back when! early days of Chaps,
Such a shame you missed thoes black type girls, when you move it will all come right for you,I will keep you posted on Tosca.
