Smoked Gold foals

Postby Derby Lyn » Sun Jul 18, 2010 3:02 pm

This mare is a flashy sabino that belongs to a client of mine. She foaled a nice chestnut colt.

Another tb mare, owned by the same client as the mare above. foaled a cute filly. What color would you say this is? Buckskin or bay? I am leaning more towards bay.

Looking at all the pics of bay foals they seem to be darker then this one. Owner is sending out hair for coat color testing.

I'd be amazed if the filly was buckskin

I'd say bay ...

This is a bay colt by the same sire from 2009:

My buckskin filly was more of a gun metal color:

and now is a dark buckskin:

What's up with all these sooty buckskins??? Where are the BUTTERMILK ONES???? I swear....I guess the Thoroughbred Color GODS aren't ready for them either

HH- Smoked Gold is a light buckskin...has yet to throw a buckskin himself unless this filly is one. He has thrown a bay, chestnut, palomino and a perlino.

Interestingly good question "HeadlessHorseman".
The Thoroughbred breed is hoping for more interesting cases like this one.

If he's got only four foal on the ground he's hitting the average. Unusual given the small sample size.
He has thrown a bay, chestnut, palomino and a perlino.
Two cream dilutes, two no dilutes. 50/50.

Will be interesting to see if he has the DW gene too.

His points are more brownish. I am expecting 2 more foals from him this year. One out of my liver chestnut QH mare, and one out of my buckskin mare.

So far they have all had some kind of white, except I am not real sure on the perlino's markings. The bay colt from last year was out of a mare with a teeny sock and a strip, and he had sabino stockings up into the knee.

That's just because there's so darn much BROWN in Thoroughbreds. It's everywhere.
