Can greying make bay look buckskin?

Postby aethervox » Tue Sep 28, 2010 5:59 pm

I ran across this filly when I was looking at other yearlings. She's listed as being gr/ro. but she looks like a buckskin.

Rubiyat x Full of Class

Yes it can. It can also make chestnuts look bay, and palominos look buckskin among other things.

Thanks for the reply. I was curious because the filly really looked buckskin and I wondered if Rubiyat might be passing a cream gene along with his grey color.

Tough call. I do think she's gray, and I do think gray could make her look buckskin when she isn't.... but she COULD be buckskin too.

IMO she's turning to a medium mouse grey. We owned a grey Hanoverian stallion Fuerst Grayheart R. All his grey youngsters looked like that. Not very attractive in winter when it was long and grungy, but they slicked off in spring all different types of grey.
