R.I.P. Remember My Name ...

Postby TrueColours » Sat Oct 09, 2010 9:53 am

Lisa is devastated. "Gutted" is how she describes it ...

So am I.

"Midas" was going to come back to Canada and Garry Roque, one of our Olympic level event riders was really excited at the opportunity to have Midas at his farm, start riding him over the fall and winter and start his showing career in 2011 in eventing. Plus as he had handled, ridden and managed so many stallions, get some mares bred in the process as well.

We were all SO excited at what the next year or two would bring for him

He got a puncture wound about a week ago in a hind leg and it wasnt coming along as well as expected at home so the decision was made to take him to the hospital and go in for exploratory surgery and they found that as well as massive infection setting in, it had invaded muscles, tissues, veins and arteries. The vet felt optomistic - that they were on top of it and could control it - but the infection had started to corrode veins and arteries and he was going in and out of shock due to the massive bleeds that they couldnt control and colicking as well. Last night and this morning he was crashing badly.

Lisa gave the authorization to euthanize him this morning and couldnt even talk when she called to tell me

First Stonewashed dying in the freak accident at his new home and now Midas. All we have left of a son to carry on this GG / Puchi Trap legacy is Frosty

I am grateful that Midas did get a few mares in foal to 2011 babies. At least he has a few foals to carry on for him

{{{HUGS}}} to Lisa and Godspeed to Midas ...

Oh, no. My heart just sank when I saw this thread. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to poor Midas and to all the people who clearly loved him very much.

Stonewashed was sold to a fabulous show home in AZ. He had been there for a few months and was turned out that day in his regular paddock for some exercise. His owner and some friends were watching him buck and play and run around, and he went from the very bright sunlight into a shaded area and due to the light change, didnt see an upright post and ran headfirst into it, breaking his neck and killing him instantly. So now there is just "Four Feet of Snow" left out of all of the full sibling colts ... :(
