looks like the guy who bought her in 2009 has tried once already to turn a profit and failed...

That was the Fasig Tipton May,2009 2 y.o. in training sale at Timonium, MD. Her owners had bought her in January of her 2 y.o. year & so the consignor didn't have a ton of time to get her to FL, get her acclimated (she's a MN-bred, so moving to FL in Jan. might have come as a tad bit of a surprise) & get her broke & galloping. We saw her at that sale & she was pretty correct & seemed a nice 2 y.o.
Had she been a correct chestnut, I'm sure she wouldn't have brought the bid she did & I'm sure we wouldn't have looked at her. But she was blonde, so someone took a chance & took her to the track. She had a bullet work later that year or early in her 3 y.o. year and then fell off the radar screen.
So, even in a down market, color does attract some buyers (the market was already down when she went through the sale - there were horses by pricey stallions who didn't get a bid at the sales she was in, or at least didn't get the bids she did.. .)
