I rode Electrum today!

Postby Truly » Sun Feb 20, 2011 5:06 pm

Electrum has been at the racing yard that I have Aurumba in pre training with.
I took him there two weeks ago to be backed and I picked him up today.

I did plan to back him last Autumn but with moving to the farm, the snow here and then Christmas it didn't happen.

So it probably wasn't the best time to back him as he knows 'that' time of year is approaching lol

Gareth the assistant trainer backed him and said he was a very good boy....although a little exuberant at times lol
I rode him when I went to pick him up and he feels lovely :)
He has a lovely comfortable long stride and unbelievably broad neck and body when sitting on him....he's grown from a boy to a man this year lol
I rode him in the school and then hacked him out on the bridlepaths through the woods.

Just wanted to share how nice it was to sit on him after a long wait from when I bought him at 7months old.

His first foal is due on the 25th......it only feels like yesterday he was a baby himself..... he'll be 4 in May !

I have one pic from Gareths phone but I can't post it...unless Angrove can help me out ? X

Gorgeous pictures.Sitting on him must be so rewarding after all that work.

Hi HH, yes I'm on Aurumba in the starting stalls.....he is such a good boy :)
He needs longer in pre training as his trainer thinks he needs to run over a mile....so he needs longer to get fit for that distance......also he is holding his condition a little too well and needs to be a bit leaner.... I love him with the extra condition on him but his trainer knows what's best for him.
I rode Electrum for the second time today but at my farm.....I put him on the horse walker first and then took him for a ride down the lane with my daughter Laura on my old eventer Troy.....he was soooo good! We even passed a tractor with a noisy hedgecutter!
Laura took some pics on her phone while riding, so they aren't great obviously but if I can send them to Angrove hopefully she can post them for me...pretty please Angrove :)

And yes thankyou.. It does feel rewarding to finally sit on them both.
They both very broad when sitting on them..something you don't realise from the ground...but Electrum is a much bigger boy than Aurumba in bone and a couple of inches taller.
I may need to get another saddle to fit him as mine are much too narrow for him!

I'm on foal watch atm.....the racemare due last Sunday is fully bagged but no wax yet and Aurumbas dam due this Friday is bagged up too but no wax yet.... I hope they don't foal the same night ! ... I'm tired already lol x
