G PS Krugerrand - DIED IN 2010????
In 2005 I headed up to Saratoga to check out Rocking Trick's little sister by Unbridled's Song, and watch her go through the sale. On that trip, I was lucky to meet up with Peggy Kohn, who owned Symmetry Ranch, along with her lovely mother and some other pals. I was brand spanking new to TB's and breeding and had just got Rocking Trick.. anyhow I was rooting around the internet this morning and noticed that Symmetry Ranch's website has stagnated and that Peggy's beautiful stallion, G Ps Krugerrand, is reported to have died in 2010?? What a bad friend I am to have not known sooner. So sorry to hear about this - he was really a "colorful" character
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
How very sad, I really liked that stallion, did also not know he died!

Not sure how many of Andy's colts are out there. I know Gold Finish, a colt I use to own, is still a stallion but has not bred any mares. There is Electrum. Argo's Quest was gelded, but his son Quest for Gold is still intact and I will be breeding a few mares to him. Quest for Gold can be seen on my website. It doesn't look like there were many other colored colts. Evergold was a gelding I owned, so not intact. Not sure about the whereabouts of Bonfire Glo, but he looks to be the only other colored colt listed. And there are a few chestnut colts also. It looks like Gold Marquesa and Electrum are his 2 cremello foals.
Andy was a stunning and athletic boy in person. He definately will be missed.

I was alerted to this post, so I guess it's time to just get the story out there and have it be done.
In 2009, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and I was in the middle of a career change. The market had turned, and I just felt that my finances and time wouldn't allow me to keep moving towards the breeding goals I had been working toward.
I floated a few quiet communications, and found a buyer who I thought would be the perfect way for Andy to achieve what I had hoped for. I received a reasonable downpayment on the sale, and started working toward his export per the buyer's request. A month or so into this, I got a bizarre email saying that the buyer had just talked to a friend and was now convinced that her target market would not breed to a palomino with spots. She simply backed out of the contract, leaving me in a really bad situation as I already terminated a partnership I'd had for a couple years on his board/breeding.
Shortly thereafter, I was contacted by a woman who seemed wonderful. She had been actively breeding for many years, and seemed to have the experience and enthusiasm needed. What she was lacking in was money. We ended up cutting a payment-plan deal that I thought would work out. My main motivation in the agreement was that she seemed very much to want me to stay involved in Andy's future.
Arrangements were made, and Andy shipped to her location. I spoke to her a few times in the next week.... and then she dropped off the face of the earth. Payments were made for a few months, but she completely stopped responding to emails and phone calls. Eventually the payments stopped.
I went through hell over all of this -- especially the "not knowing" I was recently contacted by the buyer's husband, saying they are divorcing and he was trying to make sense of the finances of the last couple years. He was really not able to provide much information, but did tell me that Andy died "sometime" after he arrived at their ranch. He didn't know of what.
So I updated the Pedigree Query site so people who cared enough to look him up would know as much as I do.
I loved being in the business, and I am so very proud of the legacy of our foals (like Electrum, who is doing everything I could ever hope!!). The string of crazy people, and gut wrenching disappointments, was just too much. I've sold off all my "business horses" and most are now in wonderful homes.
I read this board often, keep in touch with many of my "grandkids" owners... but only time will tell whether I have the heart to get back into it.
So that's the story, and you now know all that I do.
RIP Andy.
(Madelyn -- mom's cancer treatment was successful and she's doing well. She was talking about you just a few weeks ago when she and I went to Fasig Tipton)

Oh Peggy
...I'm so sorry to hear this
I know people will think I'm biased but I really thought Andy was the best dilute TB in North America.......believe me when I say I researched and studied photo's/videos of every dilute TB before I bought Electrum!
I hope you can relax and enjoy the pleasure your 'grand kids' give you Peggy...including your great grand kids across the pond.
I'm sure Andy would be proud of them too xxxxxxxxx
I'm glad your mum is doing well ! x

I am so sorry Peggy. I had no idea at all that he had died and what has transpired before he died
I am very glad to hear that your Mom's cancer treatments were successful

Oh Peggy, how simply awful. I am so very sorry to hear -- the planets must have been out of alignment for the last three years or so because I also have gone through my own very tough times..
One lesson I learned fairly early on is that if someone can't afford to BUY the horse it is also likely they can't afford to TAKE CARE OF IT EITHER which has taken me firmly away from trying to "place" horses - freebies or cheapies since they are often better off being somewhere where they won't starve to death or end up in seizures from parasite overload. For me, AND my horses, a sure swift end has to be preferable to a long drawn out ordeal. I also believe that a horse who is lame for life will just never, ever, be a happy animal. But that's me; I know what I went through being lame for 18 months or so after shattering my leg and if it wasn't for the horses and family, life was not worth living .. AND I HAD THE OPTION OF SITTING DOWN.
Please give my love to your Mom; I really appreciated being able to "borrow" her back in '05. Glad to hear she beat the cancer beast.
