Iskra

Postby austique » Thu Jun 01, 2006 8:22 pm

Two questions about the 1961 daughter of Le Haar:

Is she unraced? My pedigree says she is, but the database says she isn't.

How many foals did she produce?

BONUS QUESTION
How many pickles (gerkins) could she eat in an hour?

Official record says Iskra was unraced in North Am. If she was raced in Europe there's no rcd. of it in the EPR.

Seven foals, all named.

If your pedigree came from BRIS, they don't usually have the older foreign race records. Imported mares are often listed as 'unraced', and if they raced on both continents, the record shown will only reflect her North American starts.

Iskra did indeed race...according to her sons' stallion regsiter pages, she won 'at 2 and 3 in France'. She had seven foals, all of which are in the database....and apparently wasn't the most fertile of mares, as she is listed as having been barren seven times, and slipping twins twice.

As for the last question - 'as many as she wanted to'.

Sillies, she can't eat pickles...she's dead :P

Thank you for the info. I got confused by all the gaps in her produce record cause there were some mighty long ones. Her granddaughter's got some fertility problems too.

 I should have known there was more to it when the EPR didn't say "unraced".

"Inspired" by this discussion, earlier today I offered a pickle (Vlasic crispy gherkin) to the nearest equine which happened to be our foreman's 3yo QH colt.   If his lip doesn't uncurl pretty soon I've got some explaining to do...

An old schoolie I leased back in my student days would eat pickles. But then, he'd try anything....I once turned my back on a tuna sandwich and *gulp*, there it went!

Gave him one of those fruit roll things once, that was amusing. He was chewing for about ten minutes, like a dog with peanut butter.

One of mine plucked a half-eaten cheeseburger right out of my hand & wolfed it down, wrapper & all.
