WOOD LORE (Bay horse, 1924)

Postby [email protected] » Sat Nov 04, 2006 10:05 am

WOOD LORE (TB): Bay horse, 1924 (Campfire - Pixy x Peter Pan). Bred by R.T. Wilson Jr, Kirklevington Stud, Lexington, Ky.

WOOD LORE, a Stakes Winner at 2, is noted as having won the Fort Thomas Hdcp, Breeders Futurity.

Q: Where were the Fort Thomas Hdcp and the Breeders Futurity held?

Possibly at Latonia Race Track at Fort Thomas, Ky. WOOD LORE was bred in Kentucky…so this seems more probable than the racetrack at Fort Thomas, Arizona. Fort Thomas, Az. is only “a hop skip and jump” from Utah, where he bred at least one TB mare.

In the ASB XV, page 952...WOOD LORE is shown to have been sent to England in 1931.

Q: If WOOD LORE was sent to England or any other country....would there be a notification in the ASB's when he returned to the US?

Thanks! Pat

The Breeders' Futurity was (and still is) run at Keeneland. The Fort Thomas I could find no record of, but I agree Latonia seems likely.

For the other question, I'm also not certain - I would imagine such a horse could be in the index of imported stallions, but a quick scan through the ASBs I have handy don't show any US-breds 'coming home'. Maybe someone else knows for sure...
