SANDMETER

Postby [email protected] » Tue Jun 12, 2007 12:24 pm

Hi Folks...

Since I'm 630 miles from my ole stompin' grounds, the CTBA Library, and volume XIV (24) is missing from my ASB library...I would like to know who bred SANDMETER, Chestnut colt 1924 (Meterorite - The Rightway x Rightful).

I'm also interested in knowing any states he may have been standing in, hopefully one would be in central California.

My APR's only begin with the 1930 race year...and if someone might know if he raced...that would be helpful.

I do believe that he did stand in Oregon...as some of his daughters were bred there.

Thanx Mucho! Pat

I don't have the 1924 either, but vol. 12 (1914-17) shows his dam was owned by A. P. Sullivan of Baker, Oregon. Sullivan is also listed in Vol. 18 as the breeder of Sandmeter's younger sister Miss Meteor (1929), so it's likely he owned the mare for the years in between.

I have an APR that goes back to 1920, which lists Sandmeter as having been unplaced in three starts. However, I would take that with a grain of salt - the pre-1940 records are a bit sketchy (I've seen known stakes winners listed as 'unraced'). His dam's progeny record is incomplete, so the race record may well be also.

Can't help with the stud location, I'm afraid - my oldest stallion regsiters are from the 1950s.

Lucy...Thanks so much! I think the ole brain is wearing out on me...I should have looked up the dam in other stud books, to see there was a lead there...sometimes it "takes a village". Oregon is good!
