Hi! New to this forum, and what a great discovery.
Could anyone please provide some advice on pedigree and/or produce records software? Is there any reason to purchase, say, Tesio or something along those lines if I'm subscribing to pedigreequery? Also, what exactly is APR, and does that differ from a product like Tesio? Do any products provide sales histories as well? I'm interested in learning much more about pedigrees and eventually do some breeding and would like to have the best available resources available.
(And I don't suppose ANY of these are compatible with MACs, eh?)
Thanks.

APR is a cdrom based database of thoroughbreds. It stands for American Produce Record and is published by Bloodstock Research and Information System (Brisnet), annually. I purchased my cd last year, used on eBay, it is a 2003 one, but has been really invaluable in helping me research mares. Mine only provides Dam and Foal lookups. I am looking for software that will let me do more.... I can always pull catalog pages and other reports from equineline.com, but those monthly charges add up. You could ask Brisnet about the Mac but I don't see why not.
I'll second that. The APR CD from Bris is useful. Depending on your needs though, it may or may not be needed. It's different in that it's simply a database of all American horses for the last 40 years or so. It contains complete mare produce records, starts, career earnings, wins, places and shows for all horses and also gives a list of major races a horse may have won. That's it though, it's a useful reference tool.
Other than that, there really isn't a need for much more. The pedigreequery site is really equivalent to the TesioPower software as far as features go and our database is much more comprehensive than theirs is. You don't need both and the features of both are really exactly the same. They offer a couple small things pedigreequery might not and vice versa.
If you are on a Mac, stick to online products. APR is a Windows CD only as far as I know.

Miles,
Your program is great and very user friendly but the database is lacking. As long as nut cases can access to corrupt it and play their games it will never be taken seriously. You've got several people who enter correct data on a regular basis that are getting very frustrated because of the shenanigans caused by the open door.
