two dawn crafty

Postby holly » Tue Oct 26, 2004 3:02 pm

Hi, I just "rescued" a thoroughbred in Ellensburg, WA who has no papers and a tatoo that it illegible. I want to know his age. The previous owners say his name is Two Dawn Crafty. He raced at Longacres in Washington state and won several 6 furlong races. They told me his Dam was Glory Dawn out of Grey Dawn and his sire was Crafty Native. I would like advise on how to find his birthdate or find someone who is knowledgeable about the offspring of Glory Dawn. The vets have guessed his age by his teeth anywhere between 16 and 23 years - a big difference!! :)

You have a 19-year-old. :)

They gave you the correct sire, but the wrong dam - he's out a mare named Touch O Dawn (The Irish Lord x Touchdawn by Grey Dawn II). I added his pedigree to the database.

Two Dawn Crafty made 28 starts over five years, with a record of 28-6-2-3 and earnings of $19,959.

Hope that helps. Good luck with him! :)

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I did find him in the pedigree online all breeds database with Crafty Native x Glory Dawn as parents, but no birthdate. So I am assuming the database was then incorrect? Is there a way for me to then get his papers from the jockey club? The tatoo is illegible. Thanks again - this is great info! :D

You can get papers replaced by the Jockey Club. Since you have the horse's registered name you do not need his tattoo number. HOWEVER, it will cost $150 or order the papers and first you call them and they send you a form to use to order the papers. Then, you submit the form back to them with the money and a full set of registration photographs (they tell you what pictures they need), together with an affidavit signed in front of a notary detailing how the papers were lost. This is all providing that somewhere in his past a prior owner did NOT turn his original papers back into the Jockey Club, marked "SOLD WITHOUT PEDIGREE." The JC can answer all your questions, just give them a call. But a lot of work and money for a gelding who can prove his breed by lifting his upper lip......
