Help!!!!!

Postby Ryeno » Sat Feb 11, 2006 1:00 pm

Hi Crew,

I just purchased a 2 year that's family is not in the database and was wondering if any one can fill in the blanks. The registered name of the 2 year old is Lumbsen and he is by old sire Briar Wind out of an old mare named Gallant Mode who i am assuming is by Gallant Agent. He has a brother in the system named Glover Road however there is no dam listed on him.
Thanks to those who can help!

Hi, I found an '84 mare named Gallant Mode, added her, and your colt. Hopefully by a "2 yo" you meant he was born in '04.

Thanks Madelyn!

He is pedigree challenged but whoa what a mover and what a looker.

Hmm, don't know about that. His dam won over $103K in 56 starts, was certainly sound and hard knocking.. family is old so maybe a bit obscure. One of my favorite expressions: "The papers don't run the race" -- so for racing stock do you look at pedigree or the horse in front of you? It's REALLY nice when you get both, then you start dreaming stakes... Pedigrees are good at providing clues to surface, distance, etc.

Prime example, the yearlings I bought last fall at Fasig Tipton. Slim to okay pedigree wise, but what an athletic, well put together bunch. If I only get one racehorse out of four of them at $1K a pop I'm happy with that... and they would ALL be nice hunter prospects.

It was funny with this colt....i seen him when i walked into the farm, he was standing in a stall waiting for a gallop boy to show up (the finishing touches on his break job) and he caught my eye.I looked at a bunch of other horses and on the way back he was walking out of the stall with the gallop boy up so i followed him to their track and watched him lope.OMG he looked like a 5 year old!Switched leads on time and at the right times and had a stride on him like you wouldnt believe. The best part he just floated across the ground all with no shoes on!Hes a pretty big boy as well.I was hooked  .

Well best of luck with him! Too bad they would charge you to change his name.. Lumbsen? Sounds more like it should be zephyr something. Gallantly Gliding. Strong Breeze. Tradewind. Windpower. Oh well. Lumbsen. Rather like naming a ballerina Ima Klutz.

Hey Madelyn,

Just got off the phone with the farm and the fellow yesterday had the name wrong........his actual name is Lumsden not Lumbsen and he was named after a Canadian football player.I deleted Lumbsen and added the correct spelling.
