Running across the same sort of problem as with "SERJEANT", but this time with a "horse name" that definitely exists.
I tried adding a "Sweepstakes mare" (Turner's Sweepstakes x Sister to Joan), but it came up with the same sort of error as with Serjeant.
There are 4 Sweepstakes Mares listed on querying - but apparently they are numbered (1), 2, 3, and 5. My error told me Sweepstakes Mare4 (#4 in the DB) is locked and cannot be changed - but deliberately search for Sweepstakes Mare4, and it will tell you it cannot be found!
I tried to get around it by typing in "...Mare6", but no dice; same error about #4.
Sounds to me there is some kind of software problem causing this misidentification in the DB.
cannot add another horse - glitch in software?

The good thing about this is she is a generic "name" - I can make her (probably) in another generic name format, such as "mare by sweepstakes", or "turner's sweepstakes mare".
But I do think this problem should be pointed out.
Perhaps there is some info still existing on now-defunct "sweepstakes mare4" that is blocking anything else from being added under the same name. (You know how we're told to delete all extra info from a horse before deleting the horse entirely.)

The "Sweepstakes mare4" entry had been unlocked. I'd have added her, but you didn't specify her parentage...I did do a parentless 'test add' (now deleted), which showed that there was no additional info left behind from that entry.
Typing in the entry number is never a good idea - the DB flags numbers it does not assign itself as errors, and they will eventually be deleted.
