I would not because there is no close up black type but on the Stallions Board llbean posted an article he wrote about Bellamy Road that talks about the importance of family 10a. Bellamy Road is tail female to Arabian Dancer of that family. Arabian Dancer is also close up in your mare's pedigree. Maybe there is something to build on.

Ok then why does one not get a very good enick or true nick to sons of danzig?? I saw the horses that have come from that nick but it gets a D??? Is it because it's reversed?

enicks and true nicks are 2 different scales that will produce the same hypo mating, DI, and CD, but the letter grade is different. They measure the success of a sire and broodmare sire combination or even further back.

Nicks are just a tool, and shouldn't be the end all of a breeding decision. This mare lacks commercial value as a broodmare and should a breeding decision should be rethought.

Even though your mare doesn't look to have much blacktype, she's a granddaughter of the great broodmare sire, Graustark. That would be something to build on.

On the downside, she's unraced and there's not much family to help you as her siblings are mostly by obscure stallions and her 2nd dam Black Warning only produced one registered foal. There's not a whole lot of commercial appeal there. On the upside, she's free of Raise a Native and Northern Dancer so you have an awful lot of latitude, plus she has some very nice names in her pedigree that you don't see very often these days. If it were my decision, it would hinge on conformation, temperament and whether I had a specific stallion in mind at a reasonable fee and plans to breed to race

That's the problem there are several I like. I just don't know which stallions go with her. I was looking in the Mid Atlantic area. I saw this unraced Storm Cat in Indiana and liked his pedigree but he did nothing, his 2nd dam was very nice, his dam produced little from some very nice efforts. http://www.pedigreequery.com/cats+and+dogs. I am considering some of the Walmac studs in PA. I need some advise other than not to.

I would not spend much on a stud fee for this mare as you are likely to not be able to sell the foal - you will end up racing it yourself. She has absolutely no commercial appeal. If you do race the foal yourself, you might want to look at what a regional program has to offer and exercise care in following its rules, so that the foal will have opportunities in protected company.

An A P Indy line sire like Rock Slide in Maryland gets and A on True Nicks. He is a stakes winning full brother to Mineshaft.

She has a lot of bloodlines that are considered good for hunter/jumper or eventing--Cox's Ridge, Ribot, Double Jay, Grey Dawn, Bold Ruler. Is she riding sound? Does she move well? If so, she's likely better off as a sporthorse broodmare or riding mare.

Even with a free/cheap breeding and restricted company, you're still likely to spend less money buying a yearling or even a 2yo and racing it.

Racing or selling

Postby KMO_racing » Wed Feb 11, 2009 10:47 pm

If you are looking for her to sell the foal, I would pass on the mare. If you are going to race I would breed to a stallion with a good race record, that showed durability & soundness. I wouldn't chance breeding a mare that didn't run to a sire that didn't run. Utilize a sire that ran for more than a short term.
Thanks,

Kathy

Definite breed to race. I like Grey Sovereign/Caro sire for this mare.

Northern Afleet for $7500 might work better for you considering you're thinking of $5000 for Eavesdropper. Talyor Made will probably put a " no sell " clause in your contract anyway. Complete outcross within first 5 gen and an A++ nick if you like that sort of thing. That's assuming you want to spend that much.

* Rubiyat 2nd in the Withers S (G. II) and Peter Pan S (G. II) behind
Grand Slam.
* NYRA multiple graded stakes-placed winner; never worse than 2nd!
* Sire of multiple stakes placed Rubi Echo and NYRA allowance winner
One Tough Dude .
* Avg earnings per starter of $38,448.
* With only 25 starters, his starters earned $961,209!
