My wife has a few pieces published in TB Times and Equus magazine to name a few. Her TB Times piece was about and after Slew's passing. It is, IMHO, a very fine effort. To this day, I cannot read it without losing composure. Soon after Slew's death, there was a very large article in the Lexington paper, by a woman I think. It was very good but I thought my wife could have done much better. She wrote an article that appeared in Equus magazine that dealt with her bout with breast cancer and how her gelding helped her through it.

I am always after her to do more with her considerable talent but her own horses, Tennessee Walkers and Walker/Friesan sporthorse crosses, take up much of her time. Our recent dabling in the Thoroughbred industry, while a lot of fun, also prevents her from writing.

She is/was a huge Seattle Slew fan and we had the incredible good fortune to have had an audience with him just months before his death. Her article in TB times deals with the impact that this event and her lifelong obsession with horses has had on her life.

This past week, I happened upon a framed/signed picture of Slew's last portrait with the owners. Included in the framing was the brochure (not the correct word) handed out at his funeral, two roses taken from atop his casket and one of his shoes -taken with permission. In the back of the picture was the Lexington Times from the day after his death. Also, the catalog sheet from his sale at Keenland for 17.5k with the notation in the margin, "very nice". It will be conspicuously displayed along with the framing of her original (the TB Times editor butchered the original for brevity) writing on Slew's passing. I just gave it to her yesterday and she was overcome. Couldn't wait 'til Christmas. It was also a peace offering for not helping much with the recent move. Strategic :)

I am a Nurse Anesthetist and what little writing I have done is not worth mentioning.

I am delighted with myself that I recognized that you were a writer. 25 books!!! This must be your profession. What do you write about? Where do you live? I would love for my wife to meet a writer of 25 books!

You must have had something to do with horses for some time as you seem very informed.

Looking forward to further correspondence.

Yes, writing is my profession. I've been doing it for 25 years. A book a year, more or less, LOL. I live in Kentucky, I've been here for two years. If you want to learn about the Thoroughbred business quickly, it's the place to be. :)

We are frequent visitors to the Lexington area. Perhaps we could hook up sometime.

Have been stationed in front of the computer, cell phone in hand, trying to solve the stallion dilemna.

Have heard from other sources that Dehere does have fertility issues. He's out. Silver Deputy is booked. Looking at Perfect Soul and Saarland as possibilities.

Really would like to have dinner with you sometime. My wife would be double thrilled to dine with a writer of mystery novels and a knowledgeable horse person.

I wouldn't breed the mare after she foals under any circumstances given that she is going to have a late May foal and you would be most likely be breeding again in June. My suggestion would be to skip her for the year (half year, really) and get an early start in 2007.

I'm reasonably certain that we will give her the year off and have her positioned for a February breeding in hopes that one of Came Home's foals does something spectacular on the track in 2006. She has a colt by him.
