speightstown

I am a big fan of the potential of Speightstown but the resultant 3 x 4 to Mr. P would give me pause as only slightly more than 50 horses have won a graded stakes race when inbred to Mr. P. At least one of the conduits is Gone West who has had some success when found in a Mr. P inbreeding but not nearly as good as Fappiano.

I know that the linebreeding between Never Out and Vison and Verse is awesome (on paper) . Has anyone seen him or any of his foals? The linebreeding is also fantastic to Stormin Fever but I hear he's narrow and not at all the brawny physical specimin I need.

I do appreciate the possibilities with a stallion such as Johar or Sky Mesa but I dont think I'm willing to get a foal that is 3x4 to Mr. P with a young unproven mare. I already have a nice Victory Gallop (the foal is 4x4 to Mr P through Silver Ghost and Fappiano) and that's as close as I want to inbreed him right now, I think.

I need a medium sized sire with a strong gaskin, good pasterns, who is nice and wide. Any opinions on Maria's Mon or (gulp) Holy Bull... who seem to be two other obvious possibilities?

The Maria's Mon yearlings I saw at Keeneland so far this week were narrow and light boned.

I think Holy Bull is a hell of a horse (I've met him in person), and he has sired a Derby winner also.

The lone Harlan's Holiday, by the way, in the first part of the sale wasn't all that nice.

John, as for Vision and Verse, I have only one example. Vivid Dreams' second foal was a classy and very independent colt by VV. He was good size with a big butt. His name was Chase Scene, and he is in the database.

The stallion is about as ordinary-looking as you can get, and I suspect many of his progeny don't get all that grand early, since his sales results have been less than many other Storm Cat sons. I don't recall him being narrow or light-boned in person, and I've seen him a few times. I would not hesitate to breed my mare back to him, because I know her prior foal was sharp, but she's a solid girl.

I'm sorry I only have baby shots of the foal, as he died shortly after the pix in a pasture accident.

Henthorn:
He was a nice foal... very sorry about the mishap.

I have been intrigued by VV since the beginning...I am still relatively determined to go to a "proven sire" but he is definitely on my list.

If I took her to Holy Bull I would be following the same nick of Giacomo (HTR,Stop the Music etc). The knock on HB is that he tends to throw a high % of "dumpy " foals but it sure is intriguing.

Here: the baby would be nicely linebreed to both Aspidistra and Rough and Tumble (and of course big bonus lines to Mahmoud)....Does anyone have an example of the Rough and Tumble linebreeding working well?

Thanks again, john
