Roger, I say, "it's your horse and your money" so do what you want!!! If you like Icecapade then look at crossing your mare with my stallion, MUSTANG JOCK by Wild Again. JOCK is standing for a $1000 and is the best buy you will find. His first foals are on the ground this year and they look outstanding. His pedigree is second to none!!! When you do the hypo mating you will see his pic. He's absolutely gorgeous and very correct.

As larrygene points out, it is your horse and your money. Obviously you have your mind firmly made up and no outside opinions on the mating will sway you. Since you know the mare's breathing problem is hereditary and likely to be passed on, I hope you have checked the stallion. Good Luck!

I want to thank all of you for your opinions and its funny that I don't really disagree with what was said. I got my hackles up at Halo for just about calling me liar and I let my logic go down the drain. We all live in different worlds. Madelyn, you see and know horses that I can only dream about. Halo, Florida also is far from being like Texas. We in Texas are going through tuff times and we don't even get Kentucky's 3rd round rejects anymore. We have one stallion that could stand in Kentucky and that is Valid Expections. I guess I am saying that what might look good to me will look like trash to you and that is a reasonable statement. We have to take what we have and compete. It is more of a challenge, but one that we have. I bred Pepper's dam to Raja's Best Boy hoping for a filly to breed to Excellent Secret. I thought that he would be a better sire than he has turn out to be. I did not know at the time that he had bowed and that RBB had bowed and I do not have plans to breed Pepper to him, but the pedigree does intrigue me. I will breed Pepper at some point in the future and I like the Icecapade idea, I like Missy Baba also.

You know what Roger? Who will run in our Texas races if breeder's like you and I are gone?

It sounds like serious breeders in Texas are up against it. I feel for you. When NY first started their program, no one wanted a NY Bred, just the NY breeders who breed to race. One thing they did have was one of the top racing programs in America to showcase their horses.

Eventually, people started to take notice of how much money was available to owners and breeders of NY Breds. The next thing you knew, people were sending their mares up to foal, but then they had to breed back to a NY stallion. They didn't like the selection of stallions so they started sending their lesser stallions to stand there. Louis Salerno helped with Questroyal he brought in Belong To Me and his first few crops had some heavy hitters. That got the ball rolling.

But the NY Breeders also had some help in the legislature and they helped with laws and rules etc that kept things alive.

It's a tough go in the beginning, but with help in the right places it can be done. Good luck.

Winds, things are not bad for guys like me who breed to race, but those who breed to sale are in deep trouble. Our purses are not great, but a guy can make a living, he works at it.

Roger,

Well, maybe it's good that the breed to race guys can make a living. Now if only you could get more people to do the stamina thing more. Of course the tracks will have to write races a little longer. Or are they already doing that? I thought I read a complaint about it only being sprint races in Texas. I could be wrong.

Anyway, if you're doing alright, keep it up!!!
