I also like High Brite.

To me, he is the best genetic match for your mare.

High brite

High Brite is a very good horse when we were there. But you would have to speak to Dave McGlothlin in between the two. He might be more picky and he can help you with your choice.

Still looking at these horses collectively minus Behrens and good journey. I noticed though how interesting it would be to name a foal by high brite out of my mare...her name is Media Luna (half moon) a high brite half moon?

I'm so torn between the two and the only nitpicking I can do without seeing the horses is that with Redattore I'd get a more even spread of speed/stamina than I would with High Brite. Redattore's conduit mare profile says sprinty sprinty sprinty, and my filly is routey routey routey.

Here is the conduit mare profile on a hypo for redattore/media luna
Conduit Mare Profile = 7-4-4-4-8 Speed = 11 Stamina = 12 Index = 0.92 Triads = 15-12-16

And for High Brite/Media luna
Conduit Mare Profile = 6-4-2-6-8 Speed = 10 Stamina = 14 Index = 0.75 Triads = 12-12-16

High Brite gives me the higher gsv rating, but Redattore is a newer sire so I dont have an accurate assesment.

In all honesty I'd like to go with Redattore this year, and high brite the year after, assuming his age isnt hampering him.

Edited to add that before I learned the little I now know about breeding thoroughbreds and reading pedigrees, when I first got my mare, I had pegged Redattore for her because he was A. Pretty B. Sound (lots of starts) C. had nice shoulder/ I need to learn to trust my gut instinct because it has been several times now that I gain new information and challenge it against breeding this pair, but time and time again I end conceding that I cannot find a stallion more closely suited in as many areas as he is.

Hello

My dime's worth.

I like the pedigree match with Redattore. The conduit mare cross of each individual, Doxa (B/P) (Redattore) and Plucky Liege (P) (Media Luna), has been a successful combination when matched tail female through the sire and dam. Some good ones from limited tries are, Lush Soldier, Prayforthesoldiers, Rock War, Special Dream, and Onrichardsaccount. I do like the balanced profile presented by this match. Inbreeding (3x4 in this case) to Exclusive Native in the hypo mating has been a successful tactic, although Exclusive Native had a lot of issues regarding his soundness. The stakes winners Presents of Mine (3x3) and Me My Mine (3x4) are a couple examples. Redattore was a superb miler, and I look for him to be a solid regional sire as his runners mature.
Good luck.

Media Luna is booked to Redattore for '09. They took a bit off the stud fee, but unfortunately I booked too soon! They just dropped his fee from 4k to 2.5....so I guess I get to pay a few hundred bucks extra. I also have some quick questions about preparing her, obviously Ive been trying to get her to a 4-5 in weight, but Ill post some pics of her condition for all of you to judge if you wish. Other than that, thank you all so much for helping to guide me in the best direction with this mare, I imagine Harris farms likes her too, her mother Erinova was bred to Moscow Ballet before he passed, I liked the look of that mating as well. I also noted that High Brite is at 3.5k now! exciting, if I get my hands on Media Luna's sister, and I can afford to, she goes to him.

Did you talk to Dave McGlothlin after they lowered the price? He has been very fair about stud fees in the past.

I'm thinking of scheduling a visit to Harris Farms in the next week or two, I might use that opportunity to ask him about that if he is available. Thanks!

She has a tendency when making sharp turns to whack herself with the opposite hind hoof, the pics were taken after she was turned out so she had rear ankle brushing boots on.

Just reviewed this thread and have a question. Arch, the consensus from the beginning was to not breed her. Based on her pedigree and female family she objectively looks like a highly speculative broodmare prospect for racing purposes. You decided to breed anyway. What are the reasons for breeding? Are you planning on racing the foal or foals?

I guess you could say my reason for breeding is as follows:

This mare was clearly bred to go long, and on turf. She is bred a lot like some very succesful route/turf horses like Soldier of Fortune, and this steeplechase horse I found named Rowdy Irishman.

I found this mare at Los Alamitos doing 4 1/2 sprints on the dirt.
The fact that she made ANY money at all with complete lack of speed she had astounds me, and makes me think if she got half a chance she could be just as hardknocking as her mother was...also a router/turf that raced short and managed to make over 100k. I am going to keep this mare and foal at home/train at home. I bred her to redattore who is bred like a turf/sprinter to even out her speed/stamina ratio. I am taking a chance like anyone else, and am prepared to keep the pair as expensive pets if for whatever reason the foal never races or races poorly.

Although this is probably bad news to most of you, Media Luna was pronounced in foal to Redattore yesterday. If its any consolation she will not be re-bred after her foal...after the foal is born she is my training partner/pony horse :)
