Gone Fishin-possible match for 2007?

Postby Maureen » Sun Jun 25, 2006 5:45 am

A new stallion has been added to the local roster and I wanted to ask you folks "in the know" what you thought of this potential mating.

The mare is Marshas Starr (by Highland Ruckus) and the stallion is Gone Fishin (by Honor Grades).

Comments, anyone?

As an aside, if I were to pick up another broodmare, what lines should I be looking at for breeding to Gone Fishin?

Hi Maureen: I like those old non-Phalaris sire lines that Gone Fishin has in his 5 generation pedigree. Thats why GF made many lifetime starts.

The female family and the offspring of GF 1st and 2nd. dams have an abundance of soundness.

To find a mare that will be compatible with GF, Look at the stallions that were bred to the 1st and 2nd dams of GF. You can purchase a mare of those bloodlines, that will give you the same results.

The mare should have a balance of speed and stamina, to blend into GF family.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

I'd be hoping well with mares with a pedigree like Honor Grade's; that is
Female family of Missy Baba and, if possible, Secretariat through a female.
Wery well also mares from La Troienne.

Thank you. I'm going to scout the fall/winter sales, and have my trainer keep her eye out for retiring mares at the end of the meet.

Icecapade sirelines should work well, also Turn To (Cox's Ridge, etc.) and Never Bend. Avoid Northern Dancer, especially through daughters.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....
