I would like some opinions on breeding Miss Lucky Mertz to Lydgate by Pulpit . 2006 was his first year at stud so he is unproven as a stud. I am breeding to race not to sell commercially. Any opinions and analysis on the hypo mating would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

One might assume since Lydgate is listed as standing in Louisiana that is where the mare is also.
I personally don't like 3x4 Mr. Prospector at all, but in breeding to race the "prettiness" of the pedigree doesn't matter all that much. However, it looks also like Miss Lucky Mertz needs a stallion who was a better racehorse than Lydgate to offset the lack of big racehorses in her family. I would pass.

THE BEST SIRES WITH MR PROSPECTOR MARES ARE AP INDY AND DANZIG. WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE DANZIG SIRES HERE AND THEY ALREADY HAVE MR PROSPECTOR OR NATIVE DANCER IN THEIR BLOODLINES. I THINK AP DELTA OR WHIFF OF INDY ARE YOUR BEST POSSIBLE CHOICES. GO TO
www.louisianabred.com and under stallions go to hypo mating and cross your mare to these stallions. don stemmons has whiff of indy at traders rest farm and ap delta is at moon lake equine center.

Plentee - I like the AP Indy/Mr. Prospector cross that is why I was looking for opinions on Lydgate. Thanks for your advice, a friend of ours has a Danzig stallion named Global Mission.
Madelyn - Thanks for your opinion.
arsvcs - I am located south of Lafayette, La.
Thanks for all of your opinions.

If you're willing to go to Texas, New Trieste (by AP Indy) has a great pedigree and is free of Mr Prospector.

If you want to go with the Seattle Slew sireline LEESTOWN is the best sire of that sireline standing in La. right now and for a proven stallion, who seems to be on the rise, he's a very good price. You'd then have a foal by a proven sire standing in the state backing up your prospective '07 foal by Mustang Jock....an as yet unproven stallion.
If you want to try something different for '07 you might take a look at Political Whit who stands in LA at a really good farm. This stallion has had some moderate success from very few opportunities, complicated by three moves to three different states, in the early years of his career as a stallion. I really think he can do better if given a chance and some consistent support from breeders/mare owners. Putting your mare to him creates a foal with sex balanced inbreeding to Damasus and a few other interesting "doubles" of pedigree elements and does nothing to diminish her already speedy profile.....a distinct advantage in La.
