Any potential as a cross?

My friend has an opportunity to pick up this mare as a broodmare:

Swinging Jewel

Her sire (Nijinsky's Secret) is unraced, but is listed as a leading sire. The mare has only 8 starts, and under $3000 in earnings. She would hypothetically be bred to Wicklow Highlands, our stallion. He earned over $628,000 and is graded stakes placed placed. The goal is to get some decent foals on the ground. Would this be a mistake to pick up this mare for breeding for racing? Mind you, she is not looking to produce a huge money horse. Most likely something for a regional race market.

The sire is not Nijinsky's Secret, but Speedy Nijinsky. You'd be hard pressed to get any sort of racing individuals with this mare.

If you are trying to pick up something local you might wait until the September time frame. I am probably going to name this wrong, but the last couple of years there has been a Paddock Sale either at fairmount park or near it.

Yep, you're right about the sire. I have no idea how I screwed that one up.

The mare is advertised near my partner for free, so she thought it might be worth a shot. We only bred the stallion to 2 mares this season, and only one of those was a TB. He has one TB mare in for breeding, but she isn't in season yet, and it's getting awfully late.

Always remember, it costs the same to feed the mare whether her owners thought she was worth zero or thousands. Paddock sales at the track are a GREAT place to pick up some good young maiden broodmare prospects.
