Broodmare Advice and Suitable Stallions...

Postby EasternGale » Sun Aug 20, 2006 9:25 pm

We just had our 6 year old mare Eastern Gale run her last race today, and due to a poor finish, we decided it's the end for her. She is retiring and will go on to be a broodmare and I was just wondering about breeding advice for her. She's located in NJ right now, and we're looking to spend about 5-10K for a stallion for her. She is by Northern Idol-Cayenne Gale, by Better Arbitor, and as a runner, she was a tough, versatile runner, who won 2 NJ-bred Stakes, placed in numerous others, and won over 224K in her career in 28 starts. Was wondering how useful she will be as a broodmare, breeding to race, and what stallions we might want to look towards. Thanks.

Consider A. P. Jet, a leading NY sire. The hypomating looks good, with linebreeding to Nashua, Nearctic, Rough n Tumble, Arbitrator, and Native Dancer. It would be a shame to breed her without using the Nashua linebreeding. Any Raise a Native line son will contain it also.

Nice mare!

Love Eastern Gales pedigree, her soundness comes from those old NP sire lines.

No 8-12 crosses of Phalaris to be found in EG pedigree.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

We definately have confidence in her as a broodmare. As I stated, Eastern Gale was a superb, tough, durable, multiple stakes winner/placed mare, who was very versatile, could route or sprint, go to the front or come from off it, and won her debut as a 2YO. If she can pass any of that on, we'll be in good shape. Something I looked up too, is how close she resembles the breeding of 400K+ earner and multiple stakes winner Eleven North, who is by Northern Idol out of a Better Arbitor mare. It's an exciting time to have a broodmare and to get into breeding.
