[b]I WAS NEEDING ADVICE ON A MARE I AM GETTING READY TO BREED. I WAS NEEDING IDEAS ON WHO TO BREED TO. THIS WILL BE HER FIRST FOAL. SOMEONE RECOMMENDED ALUMNI HALL WHICH IS STANDING IN O7.

Are you looking for a KY based stallion? What stud fee range? Breeding to race or sell? Based on you possible interest in Alumni Hall I am going to guess in KY in the lower end of the market? If so, I would look at Mingun - the mating gets the AP Indy without another Raise A Native strain as well as some much needed Northern Dancer.

Alumni Hall was retired this October right? I really don't know that I like that as an option. The last thing I'd opt for with this mare is more Raise a Native (RAN) plus if you're doing breed to race I would opt for a proven sire. He didn't get around to doing anything til age 5 due to physical problems and that always bugs me when it's that vague--who knows whether it's something to worry about. Farish says he could've been a big force at age 2 but I'll believe that when he gets a time machine and tries it. They all say that, true or not. I have no idea what he looks like up close but he takes a pretty racing picture and he's got nice family. I just am not fond of it. Certainly not for sale purposes. Is Alumni Hall's $5000 stud fee a big factor or can we go up in price? Also where's the focus in terms of where you're willing to send her. Just Kentucky? Mingun's a cheap AP Indy but his first foals are 2007 so that's not uber helpful.

Obviously we have no idea what your mare looks like but preliminary glances at her pedigree don't exactly leave me jumping for joy and if not for her earnings and apparent longevity I wouldn't be enthused at the proposition of using her for a broodmare. I wouldn't think of her as terribly commercial but I might've missed something. Others have programs available to them to better evaluate the female family but it's not the strongest ever from what I looked at close up. I figure she's breed to race though and seems like a hardy sort based on her data. Far be it for me to suggest leaving a mare with serious soundness in her out of the gene pool...hmm I just dunno that crossing more RAN is the answer. I vote for an outcross. I'm trying to find one I like but it's a pain in the rear to find an AP Indy for you that doesn't have more Mr P while also keeping the price range down. I'll keep looking...I just figured I'd put in my two cents and hope it's helpful.

Agree with Heidilady and CS, particularly on the RAN avoidance. Pine Island had 3 crosses of RAN.....

A.P. Indy son, Mingun, is a nice choice if not too expensive. A.P. Indy or his sons over a Mr. P mare has produced 23 Graded Stakes winners and has a very nice VGS score of 3.72.

If you want inexpensive, breed-to-race, no Raise a Native, and a good chance of return on your investment, go straight to Slew City Slew. Even without Lava Man, he is improving his mares considerably and does not seem to have a "favourite" bloodline. They all work.

I agree with Kimberlymine- I think Slew City Slew is the best for the price, especially if you are breeding to run. They seem to be hard knockers

Seems like we've talked about Slew City Slew in general here. I looked for a few threads but do a search and there are several more. I too have heard lots about his value as a breed-to-race. Could've sworn I recommended him to someone here. I picked some threads involving value or soundess where he gets a mention. I'll have to match with the mare later to give my own opinion on him specifically with her but he's a good idea esp. with the price.

Consider Out of Place at Claiborne Farm. He's standing for $7500, and payment isn't due until the foal is born. Most TurnTo lines go well with Mr. Prospector. And there is a bonus cross with Damascus 3x4.
