Mares heavy with Northern Dancer

I have a mare that is pretty heavy with Northern Dancer. I am trying to think back to what would usually go well on top of this. She is free of the other typical current influences (Mr. P, SS, Storm Cat) and I am just looking to start planning by coming at it from a direction (Raise a Native? Buckpasser?). So...I'm looking for any general nuggets of info from the 80's or 90's that can get me going in a direction. Breed to sell is preferred. Mare is big and strong but not blocky - carries some of the look of her sire Tiznow. Name is Constant Moon. She's in KY. Thanks.

What price range are you looking at for a stallion?

Would like to stay in KY and go for something in the 10K or thereabouts range.

Pure prize might be a good place to start. Stands for $12.5K, son of storm cat over daughter of seeking the gold by mr. P, with nijinsky in tail female & 3rd. on first crop sire list while doing okay in sales ring. Seems to be some upside here & storm cat does EXCEPTIONALLY well with Tiznow. I personally am not concerned with all that northern dancer.
My other selection would be slew city slew.

Pure Prize sounds like a good idea. Another idea, continuing the Storm Cat line, is to try and find some partners and take her to Stormy Atlantic.

Absolutely ! He was actually my first choice but was out of the specified stud fee range.

If you would like to talk to someone who knows a lot about Northern Dancer nicks....www.buildabetterracehorse.com (Wayne Keller)

This mare might do well with Intidab. Her family seems to like the Icecapade line, and Mr. Prospector nicks well with Seattle Slew.
pure prize

Pure Prize would intensify ND - 5 crosses, leaving the influence @ 3 x 4. Seems like there should be a better choice than this.

******BLUSHING GROOM LINE THROUGH RUNAWAY GROOM******
Why in the heck would you want to add MORE Northern Dancer!! Don't do it...you'll end up with a horse that will bleed so bad they won't even make the track!
The MP/Northern Dancer nick is a dime a dozen. *Yawn*
I would go with Blushing Groom for sure. Runaway Groom is one of the most underrated stallions in the country...do his numbers. Look at how many millionaires, Champions, etc he has sired while getting barely average mares.
If you are breeding to sell you could probably do better with Kafwain. Because he's young and unproven (the winning ticket for sale horses) you could probably get more.
Yeah, a Tiznow mare crossed on Kafwain for the sale ring. That's my pick.

I'd use a sire like Mutkadimm as an outcross, Mr P topside and Seattle Slew on the bottom.
Pokeyman (who I'm running into everywhere, it seems. LOL!!!) has a great point with Blushing Groom...but I wouldn't sneeze at the nick with Mr P.

If you are going to go the MP route...I totally agree with Rokeby. Mutakddim is a FANTASTIC value! He's hot too as they just upped his 2007 stud fee..
Mutakddim

Mutakddim will still give 4 crosses with ND and also includes a Seattle Slew inbreeding which has produced only 2 or 3 horses who have won a Graded Stakes race.

Actually Pokeyman, you made a great point with Kufwain as a value for selling the foal - his foals average 7X the stud fee....can't beat that!
Unfortunately, Jagger is right - Mutakdimm (I HATE those Arab names - grrr!!!) does double on the ND blood. How about a sire like Pioneering? His numbers are SENSATIONAL for a $5,000 stallion, and you get the Terlingua family without the Northern Dancer topside.
What the heck is a Mutakdimm, anyway?

Great question Rokeby ! I've been trying to find out what Mutakddim means for a while. By the way ; I stand corrected... Pure Prize would definitely add too much ND to the pedigree in question. Shoulda had more coffee that day 'cause I really blew that one. Sorry 'bout that ct2346 but I agree with these fellows after another look.
